Moisture variable characteristics, observed in outdoor exposure environments, are reviewed. Data are presented from the experiments performed in end-use and accelerated weathering environments to characterize moisture characteristics on coatings. The information from natural outdoor environment characterizations and design of experiments (DOEs) indicates the new approaches for characterizing coatings weathering with regard to moisture effects. Considerations and new approaches for performing coating weathering studies are discussed. Titre : Effects of moisture, location, and angle on automotive paint system appearance during natural weathering Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Henry K. Hardcastle, Auteur Année de publication : 2008 Article en page(s) : p. 44-52 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Américain (ame) Catégories : Automobiles -- Revêtements:Automobiles -- Peinture Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : This article presents results from a simple design of experiment (DOE) in natural outdoor weathering. Results show comparative effects of three weathering variables : moisture, exposure angle, and exposure location. The experiment design reveals rank importance of the study variables and links characteristics of the outdoor weathering environment with appearance degradation of coatings. The DOE data follows gloss retention of four automotive paint systems over 96 months in subtropical Florida and desert Arizona. the article discusses some of the root causes and co-variables which may explain automotive paint appearance degradation. VieillissementIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : This article describes the structure and initial results of a new Ultra-Accelerated Weathering System (UAWS). The system allows a 63-year (approximate) equivalent South Florida 45[degrees] UV-radiant exposure within a single year of ultra-accelerated exposure. The system provides high fidelity to natural solar UV spectral power distributions while attenuating visible and IR wavelengths to maintain acceptable specimen exposure temperatures. Data is included that shows correlation between ultra-accelerated exposure and real world exposure on a rapidly weathering standard reference material.
