Résumé : |
Polyurethane hotmelt adhesives (PUR hotmelts for short) with low monomeric isocyanate content have previously left much to be desired in technical application in terms of adhesion and heat resistance. Thanks to the so-called bi-curing technology, PUR hot melts are now available on the market that require no marking and promise performance comparable to the standard PUR hot melts. |

- Fig. 1. Proportions of pre-polymers in the production of a polyurethane-based hot melt according to the laws of the Schulz Flory statistics
- Fig. 2. Bi-functional curing mechanism of the SikaMelt (safety first) product range, which provides for a performance comparable to conventional hot melts
- Fig. 3. The failure behaviour of a conventional PUR hot melt is comparable with that of the new SF hot melt
- Fig. 4. Percentage decrease of the MDI concentration in the air when using a safety first adhesive and different conditions compared to a conventional PUR hot melt
- Fig. 5. Measurement of the MDI concentration under real application conditions : The sampling took place directly in the housing (extreme conditions for display of the reduced MDI concentration) and before the roller in the work area
- Table 1. Standard properties of a conventional PUR hot melt compared to a modern hot melt with a residual monomer content < 1% and to the new hot melt adhesives SikaMelt SF (Safety First). Conventional testing methods are used to characterise reactive hot melt adhesives
- Table 2. Adhesion setting after 24 hours at 23°C and 55 per cent relative humidity. (TPO film on ABS test specimen)
- Table 3. Peel strength after 72 hours at 23°C and 55 per cent relative humidity (carpet on glass-fibre-reinforced honeycomb PUR) |
