Résumé : |
Isocyanate based polyurethane (PU) paints are well established in the coating world. PU coatings are characterized by their excellent durability, toughness, chemical resistance and stain resistance. PU coatings are used in various fields of applications such as in marine and protective coating, general industrial coatings, automotive coatings and even in architectural coating segments. However, various health, safety and environmental (HSE) legislations are limiting the use of isocyanate due to its toxicity related hazards. Also the use of renewable and green resources is gaining importance as the paint industry is gradually shirting towards eco-friendly and sustainable developments. ln this scenario non-isocyanate polyurethane and other isocyanate free coating technologies are creating a new way of thinking for the paint industry especially for ambient cured system. Few coating manufacturers have already developed and established their products based on isocyanate free chemistry. In this article, various technological approaches and recent advancements in this field have been reviewed in detail. Performance of these new chemistries in comparison to conventional isocyanate based PU has also been covered. It is expected that, the use of isocyanate free coating technology will usher a new way of sustainability for the paint industry. |
