Résumé : |
Exterior railcar coatings will continue to require the correct balance of cost, long-term performance and productivity, while meeting current environmental regulations. DTM epoxy and acrylic coatings have provided this balance for railcar owners for many years.
However, owners more concerned with the long-term aesthetics of their railcars typically require a multi-coat epoxy/PUR systems for the added UV resistance provided by the PUR topcoat. These multicoat systems can now be replaced with a DTM PAS coating system to reduce cost and improve productivity without having to sacrifice the long-term performance.
This study documented the 15yr field performance of DTM PAS coatings versus an epoxy/PUR system. Both coatings systems have performed exceptionally well, exhibiting less than 0.1% rusting and are expected to last a total life cycle of 20-25yr before repainting. DTM PAS provides the required long-term performance af a two-coat system at a lower total applied cost. Compared to DTM epoxies and acrylics, DTM PAS is expected to provide 2-2.5x the coating life, which could remove two full painting cycles. Railcar owners will need to balance the removal of painting cycles versus the increased material cost of DTM PAS versus epoxies and acrylics. |

Even on a rather poor weld (bottom left), the DTM PAS coating has penetrated well and is providing excellent corrosion protection - 6. Pictures of LUPX 60630. The epoxy/PUR two-coat system is performing excellently showing less than 0.1% rusting after 15 years in service |
