Traction (mécanique)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Natural leather is the oldest fibre which has been used by man since early times. In recent times, interest has increased in introducing smart properties to natural leather, giving it practical and economic importance. Recently, finishing, the purpose of which is to produce different leather types to meet consumer requirements has become focused on giving the leather properties that make it an advanced material with smart applications. The aim of this work is to produce superior quality leather that would upgrade its value in performance via nano metal oxide treatment. This aim has been followed by synthesising zinc oxide nanoparticles via green chemistry which is then loaded into sheep leather. The structural and morphological properties of the synthesised zinc oxide nanoparticles have been investigated by SEM and XRD. The SEM, EDX, infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) study, and tensile properties determination were undertaken, to see if any significant structural or chemical differences could be detected between ʻuntreatedʼ and ʻtreatedʼ leather. From the various analyses, it was ascertained that the nanoparticles were successfully deposited on the leather surface. The study thus provides an eco-friendly method for zinc oxide nanoparticle synthesis which can then be utilised for finishing sheep leather for creating functional properties. Produits de nourriture du cuirIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Tanning involves economic and environmental benefits, it transfers low-value by-products (animal hide and skin) into value-added products (natural leather). Introducing fatty matter into the inter-spaces of tanned leather (stiff and unusable) — fatliquoring, restores the fat removed in tanning and restores flexibility to the leather. This article provides an in-depth understanding of the process. Previous chemical treatment and building of a fatliquor emulsion are the watershed points in the process and the main factor affecting the efficiency of the process is the arriva) of the fatty substance to the collagen fibrils which are thus coated with a thin layer of fats that promote sliding of fibrils and prevent adhesion. Successful fatliquoring is achieved through using an emulsion of specific particle size to enable the oil droplets to penetrate the leather reaching to fibril level. Wet-blue (tannage)Peau tannée au chrome (le chrome donne une couleur bleue)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The huge amount of fleshings from tanneries around the world creates a negative environmental impact, in addition to disposal costs ; these wastes are not well used. This paper presents some innovative processes for reclaiming the fats carried by a large variety of flesh hides or skin wastes, along with the fatty matter separation and modification to obtain a surface active material intended to be used as leather softening agents.
The fat was extracted with hot water at a fixed temperature (85 +/- 5°C, solid : water 1:1 w/v and 2 hours stirring time). The fat rich phase was then separated and purified with n-hexane (fats : n-hexane 1:8 w/v, ambiant temperature and one hour stirring time). The fat was cooled to 12°C and filtered under pressure to isolate the unsaturated oleic fraction and exclude the stearic fraction. The chemical evaluation of oleic fraction indicated that it was suitable for the production of leather softening (fatliquoring) agent. The product was treated with sodium bisulfite (1,5 mol/kg based on weight of fat, 85°C, 2 hours stirring and continuous air flow). A good quality fatliquoring agent was produced. Application of the fatliquor emulsion on wet-blue leather showed enhanced mechanical properties, tensile strength, elongation and improved appearance. Thereby the waste was transformed into a valuable resource.Note de contenu : - METHODS : Separation of fat from fleshings - Separation of unsaturated oleic fraction from saturated stearic fraction - Analysis of unsaturated oleic fraction - Sulfitation process - Analysis of sulfited fat - Evaluations of fatliquor emulsion - Fatliquoring process - Evaluation of fatliquored leather - Scanning electron microscope

Traction (mécanique)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Local animal bone fat was chemically treated with sodium sulfite via epoxidation in presence of an heterogeneous catalyst, Dowex 50wx2-200. This approach was to avoid fatty matter degradation when using direct oxidation. A high stability fatliquoring agent was produced. The fatliquor enhanced the mechanical properties of leather, including tensile strenght, elongation at break %, and also exhibited better appearance. Valeur ajoutéeIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Leather by-product wastes are significant ecosystem pollutants. Consuming these wastes to prepare valuable products is a noble target. In this work, a trial to consume chrome shavings to prepare fine-
grade manganese oxide nanoclusters via a low-cost co-precipitation method was achieved. The co-precipitation was enhanced by developing the nanomaterial over chrome shaving leather waste. Manganese acetate purified powder was used as a starting material. The synthesised nanoclusters of manganese oxide were characterised by means of X-ray diffraction. The fine-grade prepared sample has been investigated by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Differential Thermal analysis.
The crystalline size of the synthesised manganese oxide nanoparticle was obtained from X-ray diffraction, the sizes of particles ranged from 100 to 300nm. Therefore, the study establishes a scientific basis for the use of chrome shavings as a primary surface in the co-perception process for obtaining metal oxide nanoparticles.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES : Materials - Synthesis of the samples
