Parts made of high-modulus, high-strength composite materials tend to be very noisy, in particular when (even small) shocks occur, and the sound generated by these parts can be uncomfortable and unpleasant. In air transport, acoustic comfort tends to become a major issue, bath for airline passengers and VIPs in business jets, even though aircraft trim panels and interiors are manufactured with glass fibre instead of carbon fibre. To address these issues, SMAC developed an innovative material based on the skin damping principle. |
