Résumé : |
New dispersion developments need to address the need for reasonable care of their community and the environment. The authors explain how this is being carried out.
The current development of waterborne dispersions together with cost/performance characteristics are driven by responsible care for the environment and the community. Biocides, APEO's (Alkyl phenol ethoxylates) and VOC's (Volatile Organic Compounds) are environmental and community issues that are currently in focus. The implementation of the Biocidal Product Directive (BPD 98/8/EC) is imminent. APEO's have been eliminated in many applications, in emulsion polymerisation the exchange is not complete but producers are voluntarily eliminating their use. Recent changes in the regulations concerning the emission of the VOC's have led to a growing interest and need for more environmentally friendly coatings.
New dispersion developments including novel morphology and self crosslinking chemistry have addressed the above needs and contributed to satisfying the market requirements for new products. |
