Microscopie électronique en transmissionIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The effects of polyacrylic acid (PAA) on the hierarchical structure of sheepskin collagen fibres were investigated by using of transmission electron microscope (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). It was found that although the unique axial periodic (d periodicity) structure of collagen fibrils and orderly arrangement of collagen molecule did not change obviously alter the introduction of PAA, the aggregation behaviour of collagen fibres was greatly influenced. With increasing concentration of PAA, the order of intermolecular lateral packing decreased, the shrinkage of the leather lessened [from changes in surface morphology observed by SEM] and the dry heat stability of collagen fibre declined due to a decrease in the orderly degree of collagen fibre aggregation. Tannage Résumé : Polyacrylic acid retanning agent (PAA), PAA-1 and PAA-2 with weight average molecular weights (Mw) of 14.4 x 103 and 23.1 x 103g/mol respectively, were prepared by water solution homopolymerization of acrylic acid monomer. The effects of molecular weight and moisture absorbency on glass transition temperature (T) and mechanical properties of PAA were investigated. The results showed that PAA-1 and PAA-2 have similar capacity for moisture absorbency, namely about 14.5% at 20°C(T=20°C) and 65% relative humidity (RH=65%). After equilibrating for 48 hours at T=20°C, RH=65%, the T of PAA-1 and PAA-2 fell from 86.17°C and 90.71°C to -11.44°C and -3.09°C respectively. Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) showed the storage moduli of PAA-1 and PAA-2 were significantly decreased at -26.99°C and -8.78°C respectively, the storage modulus of PAA-2 was higher than that of PAA-1 due to its higher molecular weight.
