Résumé : |
Are there any alternatives to colbalt driers ?
There is concern in the paint and ink industries about the possible classification of cobalt carboxylates such as cobalt octoate - the normal primary paint and ink drier - as Category 2 carcinogens. That classification would require the risk phrase R49 : 'May cause cancer by inhalation' to be included in the product labeling. By restricting the level of use of these compounds in products sold to the public, this classification would effectively stop the use of cobalt driers in decorative alkyl paints. Printing ink makers have indicated they will also stop using cobalt, even if legislation does not demand it. |
