This paper is about rheology additives combining both performance and sustainability benefits - qualites previously as mutually exclusive.
The demand for sustainable paints and varnishes is steadily rising and consmumers are increasingly asking for coatings that combine ecological soundness with outstanding technical performance. If coatings products are to have wide appeal in the DIY and professional decorator markets, it is essential that they be easy to use, environmentally sound and provide outstanding overall performance.
Consumers demand water-based coatings that give the same surface quality as solvent-based products. They also expect easy application and spatter resistance when using rollers - and all without the product containing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) or posing health risks or danger to the environment. Formulators are eager to serve that demand and, naturally, have to make sure their manufacturing processes are cost-effective. To serve the demand for high-quality and environmentally sound coatings, 'smart' raw materials are necessary. |
