Titre : Smart coatings - new generation coatings : Review section : 1st prize winning paper Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Abhay D. Padhye, Auteur ; Vinod K. Sawant, Auteur Année de publication : 2005 Article en page(s) : p. 53-68 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The intelligent combination of materials and novel coating processing technologies is being used to manufacture numerous coating systems that embody smart concepts. Coatings research and products have reached a certain level of sophistication. Smart coatings such as EMI shielding and conductive coatings have been in use for more than a decade. Other "intelligent" coatings include stimuli responsive, anti microbial and hygienic systems, self-healing, antifouling, super hydrophobic and many more. There is a general trend to control coating compositions on a molecular scale using nano technology. Nano-technology is the major driver through which controlled assembly of sequential macromolecular layers is possible. Such structures can form defined hollow or filled spheres that may be exploited to load coating with specific active agents, providing optical, magnetic, and catalytic functions. In this article an attempt has been made to understand the underlying concepts and applications in coating related area of hydrophobic, self-stratifying, bioactive coatings to name a few. Titre : Ecofriendly primer compositions based on chain stoppered rosinated short oil alkyds Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : S. K. Kharkate, Auteur ; Bhalchandra B. Gogte, Auteur Année de publication : 2005 Article en page(s) : p. 69-75 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Chain stoppered rosinated short oil alkyds based on soyabean oil, rosin, glycerol, benzoic acid pthalic & maleic anhydrides has been synthesized. This was converted into water thinnable emulsion using polyvinyl alcohol, ammonia and some co-solvents. These emulsions have storage stability of three months. Emulsions were used in the preparation of wood primers and solvent-based cement primers. These compositions have excellent drying and durability. The resistance of films of these primers to water, alkali, detergents and acid solutions is good to excellent. The resistance to sulphuric acid and nitric acid solutions needs improvement. High technical competences of these formulations comparable with commercial samples indicate promising possibilities. Note de contenu : - Experimental : Synthesis of alkyd resin - Synthesis of alkyd emulsion - Stability of emulsion - Synthesis of wood primers and cement primers

Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Just imagine the world without color ; like life without air. Paint a well known subject to mankind for Coloring, Decorating, Identification, Signaling from thousands of years. The fast changing technology has improved everything, Paint is not untouched. There are many folds advancement in paints too, than when it was invented. Many projects are going on to improve its applicability further. The researchers in paint industries have introduced the concept of nano-technology in paint manufacturing and application. New type of paint that acts as semiconductor diode (PN junctions for the producing electricity from solar radiation has been introduced. This paper discuss the various parameters involved in the manufacturing, testing and application of paint ; the trends followed and technology used in paint industries are also discussed. A brief discussion of the research work going on in this field along with future aspect is given along with Indian paint market scenario. Note de contenu : - Chemical and physical properties
