Résumé : |
The use of wood-based board materials in structural applications is controlled by their propensity to deflect under sustained load. Work has been carried out at BRE over the last 19 years to investigate, quantify and model the time-dependant characteristics of these materials. The material type (particles size, resin type) and in-service conditions (moisture, temperature, loading type, mode en frequency) affect the creep response of wood-based board materials and can interact to accelerate deformation.
This behaviour may be modelled using different approaches : mathematical; rheological; chemical kinetic and duration of load. Each method has advantages and disadvantages, although a rheological and a mathematical model have been specified in prEN 1156 for the calculation of creep factors used for design. Chemical kinetic modelling has considerable potential for use in design in the future. Work is currently being undertaken at BRE to investigate this further. |
