Paint manufacturers are increasingly using colour pastes in as many coating formulations as possible. Pastes can be blended with one another or added to binders and other components and thus incorporated into a paint formulation in a relatively short time. The mixing of small batches, elimination of expensive cleaning operations and the reduction of the raw material inventories, machiner) occupancy and space requirements, leads to lower manufacturing costs. CONCLUSION : Allnex has extended its range of grinding media with the introduction of the truc universal grinding medium Additol XW 6565 for both solventborne and waterborne decorative paints. Additol XW 6565 joins the other grinding media available for water-based automotive and protective coatings and solvent-based industrial systems. Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The very high gloss and durability of solventborne alkyd coatings, combined with their good application properties, such as their open time and flow and levelling characteristics, led to their widespread use in architectural and industrial coatings. The need for low-VOC alternatives to these solvent-based systems has driven the development of hybrid and 100% alkyd latex technologies with handling and applied performance properties similar to those of solvent-based products. The metal drivers typically used with alkyd emulsions, however, continue to be formulated with levels of VOCs that can have a significant impact on the VOC content of formulated alkyd paints. Additionally, the stabilisation systems used in the driers are not always compatible with the alkyd paint stabilisation systems causing drier seeding and incorporation issues. Therefore, there is a need for high-performing metal driers for alkyd coatings that do not contribue to overall VOC levels and are easy to incorporate without creating drying and other paint quality issues. To meet this critical market need, Allnex has developed a combination drier that is easy to use, provides excellent surface and through-drying, does not impact weathering and water resistance properties, and contributes <2g/l VOCs to formulated, waterbone alkyds.
