METHODS: 157 Caucasian women from three countries (France, Germany, Spain), of different ages (20-75 years), took one "selfie" image by the frontal camera of their smartphones whereas local dermatologists photographed them with the back camera of the same smartphone. The same nine facial signs of these subjects were initially graded by these local dermatologists, using referential Skin Aging Atlases. All 314 "selfies" images were then further automatically analyzed by the algorithm. The severity of facial signs (wrinkles, pigmentation, ptosis, skin folds etc.) were statistically compared to the assessments made by the three dermatologists, taken as ground truth.
- RESULTS : Highly significant coefficients of correlation (P < 0.001) were found in the three cohorts between the grades provided by the system and those from dermatologists in live. The back camera - of a better resolution than the frontal one - seems affording slightly more significant correlations. However, although significantly correlated, the signs of vascular disorders and cheek skin pores present some disparities that are likely linked to the technical diversity of smartphones or self-shootings, leading to lower coefficients of correlations.
- CONCLUSION : This automatic scoring system offers a promising approach in the harmonization of Dermatological assessments of skin facial signs and their changes with age or the follow up of anti-aging treatments.Note de contenu : - Subjects

Differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) results showed that the crystallization temperature of iPP with CSS and NSP were increased by 4.1 °C, and 2.4 °C, respectively. The tensile strength, flexural strength, and izod impact strength of iPP/CSS (33.75 MPa, 33.04 MPa, and 4.80 kJ/m2) were higher than that of iPP/NSP (32.09 MPa, 32.27 MPa, and 4.25 kJ/m2). In addition, the haze value of iPP/CSS was decreased from 37.6 % to 27.6 %, which was 4.7 % lower than that of iPP/NSP (32.3 %). The better performance of CSS as ascribed to its better dispersion ability in iPP matrix than NSP, and it was verified by scanning electron micrograph (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). Overall, these results indicated that inorganic silica sols had a potential application in the nanoparticle-reinforced composites field. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : The influence of content and aspect ratio of whiskers, calcium carbonate and aluminum borate, on the morphology evolution of liquid crystalline polymer (LCP) was investigated in polysulfone (PSF) matrix. The study showed that the deformation of LCP droplets was significantly promoted by adding whiskers into PSF/LCP blends, and the longer whisker produced a more pronounced fibrillation effect. The analysis of flow field and elasticity of system showed that the addition of longer whiskers increased the elasticity of materials more efficiently and enhanced the vortex in the converging flow area at the entry of capillary, which resulted in an increase of the elongational stress and promoted the formation of longer LCP fibrils in PSF/whisker system. As a consequence, investigation of these new functional surfaces has gained increasing interest in technical and scientific literature. Yet, the most effective solutions currently available are quite costly and, consequently, only used in high value components such as touch screen displays.
To overcome this high cost barrier, Cytec introduced its latest development for energy curable coatings, namely Ebecryl 8110 resin for consumer electronics components such as casings etc. This novel and patent-pending UV resin enables paint formulators to develop coatings that meet the overall coating performance requirement (hardness, adhesion, chemical resistance) as well as permanent easy fingerprint removal/easy-to-clean surface property.Note de contenu : - Effect of composition

Textiles et tissus à usages techniques -- Propriétés mécaniquesIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The demand for small-diameter blood vessel substitutes has been increasing due to a shortage of autograft vessels and problems with thrombosis and intimal hyperplasia with synthetic grafts. In this study, hybrid small-diameter vascular grafts made of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and silk fibroin, which possessed a hybrid fibrous structure of an aligned inner layer and a random outer layer, were fabricated by the electrospinning technique using a customized striated collector that generated both aligned and random fibers simultaneously. A methanol post-treatment process induced the transition of fibroin protein conformation from the water-soluble, amorphous, and less ordered structures to the water-insoluble ?-sheet structures that possessed robust mechanical properties and relatively slow proteolytic degradation. The methanol post-treatment also created crimped fibers that mimicked the wavy structure of collagen fibers in natural blood vessels. Ultrafine nanofibers and nanowebs were found on the electrospun TPU/fibroin samples, which effectively increased the surface area for cell adhesion and migration. Cyclic circumferential tensile test results showed compatible mechanical properties for grafts made of a soft TPU/fibroin blend compared to human coronary arteries. In addition, cell culture tests with endothelial cells after 6 and 60 days of culture exhibited high cell viability and good biocompatibility of TPU/fibroin grafts, suggesting the potential of applying electrospun TPU/fibroin grafts in vascular tissue engineering.
