How work continues to ensure that users are kept fully aware of all hazards associated with 2-pack isocyanate coatings.
The commercialisation of the first poly-isocyanates in 1952, following the polyurethane research by Otto Bayer and his colleagues in the late 1930s, was undoubtedly one of the most significant steps in the history of industrial chemistry. Although the initial focus was on the use of this technology in fibres and flexible foams, their introduction into the world of coatings and printing inks soon followed and we have enjoyed the benefits to using isocyanate chemistry in our industry for more than 50 years. As we know, the versatility and robustness of this chemistry is unsurpassed — it has become an essential part of the industrial coating formulator's toolkit, for protecting metal and plastic (especially clear, durable topcoats for outdoor applications) and for flooring and wooden furniture. |
