Radiation processing technology has made remarkable contribution in replacing the conventional methods used for curing of polymers. It has been a breakthrough in developing various properties and applications such as high emissivity in solar cells, flame retardant property in layered silicate-polymer Nano composite coatings, hgh scratch and abrasion resistance in polymers etc. This processing can also be used to improve the interlayer adhesion in 3D printed parts by introduction of crosslinks among the polymer chains by exposing the copolymer blends to ionizing radiation to strengthen the parts and reduce anisotropy, in the development of various high actuation properties of temperature responsive shape memory polymers and grafting of polymers for better mecanical properties is easily possible due to radiation. With this still new technique of radiation processing many contemporary avenues of research and material technology are still being developed. Such highly efficient and advanced properties and applications of radiation processes are a boon to the industrial aspects of this technology. |
