Phenalkamides are a novel class of curing agents for two-component, ambient cure epoxy coatings and adhesives. Phenalkamides combine the benefits of polyamides and phenalkamines in one product, while mitigating their limitations. Epoxy coatings based on phenalkamides have the outstanding corrosion protection and fast low temperature cure of phenalkamines, with the good colour stability, long overcoat window and high flexibility of polyamides. This combination of properties enables the use of one workhorse-curing agent year round in multiple protective coatings and structural adhesives applications. ln addition to their excellent performance, phenalkamides are made from Cashew Nutshell Liquid (CNSL), a non-food chain, renewable-oil extracted from the honeycomb structure of the cashew nut. CNSL based products have been widely and successfully used in the coatings industry for over 25 years. |
