ViscositéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Using titanium dioxide and iron oxide pigments in various powder coating systems, an investigation was made of the influence of the surface of the pigment used on properties such as viscosity development and curing reaction during stoving. Surface treatment of the pigment particles with inorganic and organic substances allows the specific modification of these properties. The interaction between the viscosity and curing kinetics on the one hand and key coating properties such as flow, gloss and hiding power on the other hand is demonstrated in pigmented powder coatings and discussed. Tension superficielleIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Surface chemistry is dedicated to processes and phenomena on interfaces, whereas colloid chemistry is focused on properties and behavior of dispersions.
This series of articles is to describe colloid basics of paint and coating technology, where disperse systems are widely used (latex and emulsion-type binders and paints, pigment grinds and pastes, hydro- and organosols, powder paints, etc.) and surface phenomena play important (sometimes decisive) roles in a dozen of technology processes as well as in the formation of coating structures, thereby influencing coating properties. Unfortunately, with the exclusion of particle sizing, colloid methods are still not sufficiently exploited in paint technology, although their effectiveness in R&D, for optimization of coating compositions and for trouble-shooting in paint production and application is commonly recognized.
The series will provide paint specialists with useful colloid concepts, mechanisms, formulae, methodics and examples for better understanding and controlling of various steps of paint manufacturing and application.Note de contenu : - Open and isolated systems

RevêtementsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The condensation of urea with formaldehyde and butyraldehyde leads to cycloaliphatic polymers. These are solid hard resins with unique characteristics. The resins are used as additive resins in many coatings systems. The extremely low viscosity of solutions helps lowering the VOC in coatings. The resins also improve hardness, gloss, UV resistance and weather resistance. Application areas of these resins are alkyds, vinyls, nitrocellulose, powder coatings and pigment preparations. - Application areas for butyraldehyde resins : Air drying alkyd coatings - Alkyd/melamine baking finishes - Chlorinated rubber/vinyl coatings - Powder coating : Better pigment incorporation ; Flow improvement - Pigment pastesPermalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=11400

VernisIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The techniques used for finishing and coating furniture or other wood based products are mainly based on the drying and curing of lacquers using air circulating ovens. This restricts the range of coatings which can be used, due to the upper temperature limitation imposed by timber. Advances have already been made to introduce ultraviolet and electron beam technology to the industry, which can radically reduce drying and curing times for clear lacquers. However, some difficulties are being encountered in applying these technologies to powder and pigmented coatings. The use of focused thermal or photoenergy may provide a route for developing improved rapid curing technique for coatings or timber based products.
