The sample is applied thinly, resulting in low solvent retention and short drying time. The method can be used where results have to be obtained quickly, where products tend to form a skin or are affected by heat. Titre : Particle sizing in the paint industry Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Alan Rawle, Auteur Année de publication : 1996 Article en page(s) : p. 195-198 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The paint and pigment industry is only relatively recently becoming aware of the importance of controlling the particle size of its materials. Improved quality methods necessitate controlling paint performance at the manufacturing stage - a need that has stemmed from tighter tolerances and specifications from large paint consumers such as the automobile industry. This article explains the importance of particle size and illustrates it with relevant examples. Dispersion processes and the shape of materials makes particle size analysis a more complex matter than it first appears. Note de contenu : - The particle size conundrum

Athey, Auteur Année de publication : 1996 Article en page(s) : p. 199-201 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In the world of today, color evaluations are usually made by computerized instruments. Instrumental evaluation is a good option in those cases in which colors are generated by simple reflectance from fine spherical pigment particles of high density. However, there are cases where color is derived from a different mechanism. Instances of inappropriate spectrophotometric color measurement are exemplified. These cases are related to fluorescence or to the geometry of the pigment/binder combination. Because these difficult-to-measure colors are common among specialty coatings for industry, recommended modifications of color measuring instruments are offered. Titre : Pigmented UV curable materials Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Norbert Pietschmann, Auteur Année de publication : 1996 Article en page(s) : p. 204-207 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Considering pigmented acrylate formulations the influence of various raw materials, the type of UV radiators, duration of exposure, and film thickness were studied. The criteria used included IR and UV/VIS spectrometry, radioscopy, etc. The size of the free spectral window as an indicator for the curing behaviour was shown to be of restricted relevance to white and coloured lacquers. Additionally, a similar estimate could be made of the pendulum hardness and of the maximal free curable film thickness as compared to the curing behaviour on wood. Moreover, the reflectance of the substrate had a large influence. An optimized mixture of acrylate oligomers with high reactivity and functionality, careful selection of type and amount of the photoinitiator system and stretching of the pigments with extenders permitted the development of white and black coating materials giving opaque films with good through and surface curing. A comparison was also made with reference to polyester systems and to cationically curing compositions. Note de contenu : - Relationships between the spectral window and the curing properties
- Pigmented formulations with various binders
- Curable film thickness in comparison with other investigationsPermalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=11287

Titre : Antigraffiti coatings Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Walter Schubert, Auteur Année de publication : 1996 Article en page(s) : p. 208-211 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Revêtements anti-graffitis Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The new coating system is based on a graft polymer of an acrylic resin onto a silicon resin. Both the acrylic and the silicon resin need adapted polarities, molecular weight distributions and functionalities. A special synthesis route allows the introduction of a variety of functional groups and to combine the novel graft polymers with various crosslinking systems. The most predominant property of the new polymers is a very low surface tension which remains unchanged over a couple of years. The chemical and mechanical properties of the resulting coatings were investigated extensively. Coatings based on the described graft polymers show an excellent dirt repellent effect, graffities can be easily removed only with water. Therefore a long range of possibilities in the field of application is revealed; practical experiences are made with application of an anti graffiti clear-coat on trains in Denmark and Germany.
