Résumé : |
In this paper, recent development in coating industries on self stratifying coating has been discussed from mechanistic point of view. After application as a thin film, self stratifying coating does spontaneously form two coherent layers as base coat-clear coat, primer - top coat in one single coat application. The condition for self-stratification, analytical methodology to verify self- stratification, necessary requirements for this type of coating have been discussed in detail, including compatibility between the resin surface energies and other parameters. Stratification can be predicated from the extent of overlapping of solubility spheres using Hansen's solubility parameters (HSP) and surface energies. Various factors like evaporation rate, viscosity, film thickness, curing rate effecting self stratifying coating have also been focused on. Very good stratification has been observed in epoxylacrylic, epoxylvinyl ether copolymer and epoxylfluoro ethylene in their unpigmented system. Success have been also achieved to locate a protective pigment in the primer and subsequent clear coat over it. |
