Studies of the effluent from two different fellmongery processes are reported. The mass discharge of pollutants from both processes was similar, but the drum process was more efficient in water use. The results provide a basis for segregating fellmongery effluents in relation to their sulfide content and subsequent treatment by maganese-catalyzed oxidation. Results of pilot-scale manganese-catalyzes sulfide oxidation studies are reported and conclusions drawn with respect to catalyst dose and the distribution of products of sulfur oxidation. |
