The rate of emission of the pulses and their energies were determined. The frequency distributions of the pulse amplitudes comprised spectra that were similar in shape for skin that had been dried from acetone, petroleum ether, and petroleum ether containing fatliquor. The separate contributions from the ruptures of adhesions and of fibers to these spectra were analyzed and related to the lubrification of the fibers by fatliquor. The method promises to be helpful in elucidating and following changes in fiber adhesion in tanning, drying, impregnation, filling, and finishing, and might serve as the basis of a field test in leather drying.
