Although in more recent times they have become finer, and new pigments have been developed, in relative therms the paints that one considers to be traditional are similar to those produced hundreds of years ago, and used on houses, ships and works of art alike, in variable fineness or expense in pigment. The ingredients of the same name are generally available but, unless made as they were in each age, they are for the large part more refined.
