A stratifying coating based on chlorinated rubber and epoxy resin paint blend has been prepared. Chlorinated rubber is pigmented with rutile grade titanium dioxide and epoxy resin is pigmented with red iron oxide. Different types of curing agents on the stratification behavior of pigmented chlorinated rubber/epoxy resin has been studied. Surface tension as well as its polar & disperse component for individual hardener has been determined. Stratification occurs only with polyamide resin hardener, used as epoxy curing agent. Cross section of dried coating film is analyzed under optical microscope, then further characterized by FTIR, HATR, SEM-EDX, X-ray mapping. After stratification, two distinct coating layers are obtained with titanium dioxide pigmented chlorinated at the air interface and iron oxide pigmented epoxy resin towards substrate. |
