Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The multifaceted applications of superhydrophobic surfaces arising out of their unique surface architecture have gained significant attention in the solar photovoltaic industry as it addresses the challenges in light conversion efficiency at an industrial scale due to the soiling of surfaces. Inspired by the self-cleaning properties of the lotus leaf, this review proposes the use of superhydrophobic surfaces as an effective solution for soiling mitigation in solar cell applications. The review examines various factors influencing dust settlement and evaluates existing soiling mitigation techniques. As most literature reports the insufficiency of theoretical wetting models with the controversies around its assumptions, the importance of modified models over the theoretical models is compared and highlighted. The foundations of superhydrophobic coatings including transmittance, porosity, and refractive index of coatings, thickness and surface roughness in addition to the commonly reported surface tension and surface free energy aid to focus on feasible fabrication techniques and provide improved efficiency of solar cells. Finally, the review presents a classification of durability tests to highlight the importance of durable coatings bridging the gap between the fabrication and application of superhydrophobic coatings for solar cells on an industrial scale. The drastic depletion of these fertilizers (30-50%) poses a serious risk to both human safety and the environment. Researchers have introduced new-generation fertilizers (NGFs) to tackle these challenges. This study initially examined the pros and cons, nitrogen loss, and global usage of traditional fertilizers. Subsequently, it categorized different types of NGFs, with a particular focus on the utilization of controlled-release fertilizers (CRFs). Afterward, the research delved into studying the nutrient release mechanism, the type of coating materials, the techniques employed for coating, the advantages and challenges related to CRFs, and the impact of specific parameters on the mechanism of CRFs. In conclusion, we have presented a comprehensive overview of several commercially manufactured variants of CRFs. The utilization of CRFs is experiencing a notable upward trend, exhibiting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.37%. Moreover, this growth includes active involvement from governments, farmers, and industries. Note de contenu : - Fertilizers

Revêtements:PeintureIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Piezoelectric paints/coatings usually consist of a polymeric matrix (binder) with embedded piezoelectric ceramics (second phase or pigment) in the form of microparticles or nanoparticles. Piezoelectric paints have gained prominence in aerospace applications among the various categories of smart coatings, especially for structural health monitoring and absorbing radiation. These coatings (in the form of thin/thick films) are also being applied in the place of brittle piezo-ceramics in various microelectronic devices, for example, in gas sensors and flexible electronics, as well as in various energy-harvesting applications. This review paper focuses on the current state of research for the processing and characterization of piezoelectric composites used as paints/coatings films. Special emphasis is on: (i) the processes of application of piezoelectric paints/coatings in the form of a single layer or stacks of thick films and (ii) the processes of poling these piezoelectric coatings. Various modes and process parameters of poling and their effects on the piezoelectric output of different piezoelectric composites are discussed with examples from the literature. Finally, we have tried to identify the existing issues and address the possible way forward in terms of industrial or academic research within the domain of piezoelectric paint/coating film.

Revêtements antisalissures:Peinture antisalissuresIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The construction of coatings on the surface of materials to avoid contamination is a common means of antifouling that has been extensively and systematically studied. Currently, adding biocide components to the coating to kill bacteria and other adherent microorganisms on the material's surface is the most effective way. However, the loss of effective bactericidal components can cause the coating to lose its long-lasting antimicrobial performance. To solve this problem, the use of organic polymeric antimicrobial agent quaternary ammonium salts came into being. The quaternary ammonium salt component can be chemically bonded to the polymer matrix in the coating, effectively avoiding the loss of the active ingredient. Quaternary ammonium salts mainly achieve bactericidal purposes through interaction with cell membranes, and their antimicrobial activity is closely related to the molecular structure. This article mainly summarizes the relevant research progress of quaternary ammonium salt compounds and divides their application in antifouling coatings into two major categories: quaternary ammonium salt grafted polymer matrix and quaternary ammonium salt compounded with inorganic particles through different doping methods of quaternary ammonium salt in antifouling coatings, summarizing the relevant research in recent years. Sol-gel, ProcédéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : For many decades, chromium and its derivatives have been the integral part in the corrosion protection of structural parts and have a wide application in the aircraft industry. It is used in the pre-treatment of aluminum substrate in the form of anodization or conversion coating and in the primer layer as a chromate additive. However, harmful impact of hexavalent chromium (Cr6+) compounds on the human health and the environment has triggered the need to find alternative corrosion protection measures. Finding an alternative to chromate is an arduous effort as chromates are known to provide a corrosion protection under extreme environmental conditions over a very wide range of pH. Active corrosion protection ability, commonly known as self-healing ability, is a hallmark of chromates. In a pursuit to realize an eco-friendly coating system, there are efforts worldwide to find alternatives both for primer component and for the pre-treatment process. This review focuses on work that has been carried out to replace Cr6+ in the pre-treatment process. Importance is given to those alternative pre-treatment processes that have the potential to provide active corrosion protection and possibly replace chromic acid-based anodization and conversion coatings. Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Polyurethane (PU) coatings are widely used in various industries due to their excellent mechanical strength, along with abrasion, chemical and weather resistance. Recently, use of dynamic bonds to increase the recyclability and self-healing properties of PU is being extensively explored. Incorporation of nanofillers into the PU matrix can further enhance their performance as a coating matrix for application demanding thermal stability, mechanical strength, abrasion resistance, corrosion resistance, foul resistance, smudge resistance and UV resistance. It has been reported that inclusion of nanofillers, like nano-silica, graphene, organoclay, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide can provide enhanced functionalities to the PU matrix owing to their small size and high surface area-to-volume ratio to design tailor made PU coatings with desired properties. This review highlights the classification of PUs based on different dynamic chemistry for imparting self-healing and recyclability properties to the polymer matrix. Further, it will also provide a detailed insight regarding various polyol sources used for the synthesis of PUs, technologies adopted to incorporate nanofillers into the PU matrix for developing PU nanocomposite for coating applications and properties associated with these coatings. A brief conclusion highlighting the present challenges and future prospects of the PU nanocomposite coatings is also presented. Note de contenu : - Polyurethane based on dynamic chemical bonds

Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Energy is one of the most critical factors in modern life and its consumption is increasing. Fossil fuels, the main energy sources, are being depleted due to heavy demand, which also contributes to the rising atmospheric temperature, harming both nature and human health. To overcome the energy crisis, improving the energy efficiency of existing technologies is crucial. Phase change materials (PCMs) are promising materials that improve energy efficiency through thermoregulation. By storing thermal energy within a narrow temperature range, PCMs reduce temperature fluctuations, minimizing the energy required to maintain a constant temperature. Buildings consume a large amount of energy for thermoregulation, and the incorporation of microencapsulated PCMs (MPCMs) into building materials can play a crucial role in regulating temperature. This review paper acquaints the reader with PCMs, their types and PCM microencapsulation techniques, which are essential for formulating coatings in the paint industry and other building materials. UréeIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Urea is the most applied nitrogenous fertilizer with 46% nitrogen (N) among available synthetic fertilizers. On the other hand, uncoated urea is subjected toward quick nutrient loss due to its higher solubility. This problematic issue could be addressed by applying slow-release fertilizer. The main aim behind this research was to model and simulate the nutrient release pattern from coated urea using zinc oxide (ZnO) as a micronutrient Zn source. A multidiffusional model was adopted for the simulation of prill fertilizer. During this study, finite element method and 2D geometry were utilized for prilled urea fertilizer using COMSOL multiphysics software. The second phase consisted of release kinetic study by using the experimental release data. In the present research, synergism was observed between the simulation and experimental results of nutrient release, with an error of 0.041. The dissolution curves of urea for simulation and experimental studies followed sigmoidal behavior. The results findings indicated that a second-order equation could be used to express the nutrient release from Zn coatings (ZnO or ZnO-NPs). Second-order kinetics express that nutrient release from Zn-coated urea was controlled by diffusion. Additionally, the second-order kinetic constant increases with raise in coating percentages which enhanced the mass transfer resistance.

Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Graphene oxide (GO) addition to epoxy can improve various properties provided that the GO features, dispersion and interaction with epoxy are optimized. Herein, the challenge of improving the hydrophobicity, flexural behavior and wear resistance of an epoxy coating on steel substrate was addressed by GO incorporation. Three GO concentrations were tested in the epoxy system (0.1, 0.25, and 0.50% m/m), and nanocomposites were prepared via roller mill. An increase in the thermal stability of the pure epoxy by 23°C was observed for the nanocomposites as a function of GO incorporation. XPS analyses were carried out to study the interaction between DGEBA and GO, and the results show that a covalent link was formed between GO and epoxy. The wettability test showed an increase of 26° in the contact angle while the behavior of the system from mechanical bending tests showed gains of 52% in the energy to fracture for the sample containing 0.5 wt.% GO with respect to the neat epoxy. The wear of the coatings showed a 31% decrease in the wear coefficient of the nanocomposite compared to the reference. The set of results reported in the present work pointed to the epoxy/GO coating as promising in terms of hydrophobicity and wear properties. Note de contenu : - Chemicals and reagents

Furthermore, the HBAR was modified with several proportions (10, 20, 30, and 40 wt%) of maleic anhydride (MA) to obtain maleinized HBAR (HBARMAs). The structural, thermal, rheological, and film properties of the HBAR and HBARMAs were evaluated for the purpose of estimating the effect of MA content on the properties of the HBARMAs. HBARMAs exhibited hydroxyl values inferior to that of the HBAR and it decreased with the MA content. Infrared and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) analyses provided evidence of the formation of the HBAR and HBARMA. The number average molar mass () of the HBP4 was lower than that of the HBAR, but those of the HBARMAs were higher. Using dynamic light scattering analysis, it was observed that HBAR exhibited smaller hydrodynamic dimensions than HBARMAs. The glass transition temperature (Tg), onset decomposition temperature (Tonset), and viscosity (η) values of the HBARMAs increased with the MA content and it was higher than those of the HBAR. However, the drying time exhibited the opposite behavior. Note de contenu : - MATERIALS AND METHODS : Synthesis of HBAR - Synthesis of the HBARMAs - Characterizations of the materials

Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In this paper, the influence of different amounts of phosphoric acid on the protective properties of phosphorylated PVA (PPVA) coatings on a Mg AZ31 alloy is investigated. PPVA coatings and free-standing films were prepared by dip-coating and casting, respectively, and characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and swelling assays. The anticorrosion properties of the coatings were investigated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and potentiodynamic polarization, both in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution. The results show that |Z| values increase with the amount of H3PO4, reaching values on the order of 105 Ω cm2 for the coating with the highest amount of H3PO4 (0.100 PPVA). Additionally, this sample shows the lowest swelling degree (around 80%). Polarization tests demonstrate that all coatings significantly decrease jcorr (from 4.8 μA cm−2 to values around 0.3 μA cm−2) by means of a cathodic inhibition. These results make of PPVA coatings interesting water-based alternatives to polysaccharide coatings. Revêtements comestiblesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The purpose of this study was to develop an edible coating containing babassu starch, babassu oil, and plasticizers to maintain egg quality. Firstly, it evaluated the effects of 5% babassu starch with 10% (SC-10%), 15% (SC-15%), and 20% (SC-20%) oil coating on egg quality. The effects of polyols such as mannitol and sorbitol alone or in combination on coating effectiveness were also assessed. For the first part, all formulations containing starch and/or babassu oil effectively preserved the internal quality characteristics of weight loss and Haugh units of stored eggs for 28 days. For the yolk and albumen percentages, the eggs for the treatments containing oil (SC-10%, SC-15%, and SC-20%) had the values closest (p < 0.05) to those of fresh eggs. Thus, according to these parameters, the presence of the oil in the coatings was more efficient in delaying egg quality. Despite the increase in albumen pH with the storage, the eggs stored with coatings kept the pH around 8.5. For the yolk color, the b* values of SC-10%, SC-15%, and SC-20% varied from 22.64 to 24.25 and did not differ (p > 0.05) from fresh eggs. Regarding the shell color, ΔE values of coated eggs were higher in the starch babassu treatment (6.97), followed by the treatments SC-10% (4.79), SC-15% (5.18), and SC-20% (5.17), and finally without coating (15.95). The formulation SC-10%, which contained 5% starch and 10% babassu oil, was selected to compare plasticizers. For the plasticizers, the babassu starch and oil in combination with 30% mannitol kept better the egg quality. Weight loss was lower (p < 0.05) in eggs only with 30% of mannitol (2.69%) and the Haugh Units were higher (60.04). For the b* value of yolk, 30% of mannitol had higher values (48.83) (p < 0.05) when compared to the control treatment (40.39). Thus, the presence of babassu starch (5%) and oil (10%) in combination with 30% mannitol maintains the egg quality during 28 days of storage. This study provides an approach that can potentially be applied to egg shelf life using products of the babassu industry.

Revêtement de conversionIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The eco-friendly PAA/Zn2+ conversion coatings, composed of PAA-Zn2+ complex and ZnO/Zn(OH)2, have been prepared by taking advantage of coordination-driven assembly method for suppressing steel corrosion. Because of high affinity of PAA for steel surface and various metal ions, metal ions-assisted organic molecule assembly strategy used to construct chemical conversion film on metal surface has been extended to the design and construction of polyelectrolyte–metal complex conversion coating. In this work, some film properties associated closely with film formation time containing corrosion resistance, surface microstructures, and chemical compositions were carefully investigated by using electrochemical measurements, morphologies tests, and spectra analysis and possible film-forming mechanism of PAA/Zn2+ film was proposed. The highest charge transfer resistance (Rct = 24,960 ohm cm2) was recorded for PAA/Zn2+ film based on EIS, which is about 30 times higher than that of the bare steel. And minimum corrosion current density (icorr = 1.01 × 10-7 A cm-2) was obtained for PAA/Zn2+ film from polarization curves, which is only 3.34% of that obtained from bare steel. Herein, the PAA/Zn2+ conversion coatings constructed between 30 and 60 min present outstanding corrosion resistance performance and the protection efficiencies are greater than 90%. Furthermore, PAA/Zn2+ films have a positive effect on improvement in adhesion of epoxy coating on steel surface, which can further improve corrosion resistance of whole paint system, especially for PAA/Zn2+ films fabricated for long film formation time (e.g., 30 min and 45 min). Due to environmental friendliness, strong corrosion resistance, and good adhesion performance, PAA/Zn2+ conversion coatings are expected to be an ideal substitute for the traditional chromating process. Using a laboratory flexo printing machine, UV-inks containing leafing-type vacuum metallized pigments were printed onto Chromolux paper and primed MultiArt Gloss paper. The time between printing and curing of the ink (dwell time) was varied between the experimental runs. For some samples, hot air was applied onto the uncured UV-ink during the dwell time. The influence of heat (hot air) and dwell time on gloss and the topography of the pigment layer as well as the influence of the substrate was investigated. Roughness and waviness data were obtained using a confocal microscope (Sensofar PLu Neox), gloss measurements were obtained using an IQ-S gloss meter. It was shown that a longer dwell time as well as hot air has a positive influence on the specular gloss measured on the metallic ink printed on Chromolux paper. Also, good correlations could be found between specular gloss, roughness, and waviness, respectively. For primed Multi Art Gloss paper, however, a longer dwell time and hot air can have a negative influence on specular gloss. Also, correlations between roughness, waviness and specular gloss are not as strong as for Chromolux paper. Note de contenu : - Table 1 : Print setting of the laboratory flexo printing machine IGT F1

Tribologie (technologie)Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In order to enhance the wear resistance of 6061 aluminum alloy, the MAO-PVA/PTFE self-lubricating composite coating was prepared on the surface of aluminum alloy using microarc oxidation (MAO) technology and solgel technique. Scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction were employed to analyze the morphological properties and structures of the single MAO coating and the composite coating. Energy-dispersive spectroscopy was utilized to examine the elements present on the surface and within the wear track. Ball and disk friction tests were conducted to evaluate the wear resistance of the composite coating. Furthermore, the comprehensive friction performance of the composite coating was investigated across a range of speed variations (1 to 2.5 cm/s) and load variations (1 to 7 N). The test results revealed that the PVA-PTFE film covered the surface of the MAO coating, effectively sealing the micropores. Compared to the single MAO coating, the average coefficient of friction (COF) of the composite coating decreased significantly from 0.549 to 0.139, resulting in improved wear resistance. Moreover, the COF of the composite coating decreased with increasing velocity and load. Subsequently, the wear mechanisms of both the single MAO coating and the composite coating were discussed. The main wear mechanisms observed in the MAO coating were adhesive wear and abrasive wear, while the MAO-PVA/PTFE composite coating exhibited minimal fatigue and oxidation wear. Consequently, the composite coating effectively enhanced the wear resistance of the aluminum alloy, leading to an improved service life.

Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Introducing nanofillers into UV-curable coatings can not only effectively improve the performance of the coating but also impart new functions to the film. Herein, methacrylate-functionalized aramid nanofibers (mANFs) were constructed by a bottom-up approach, and their influence on the performance of UV-curable epoxy acrylate (EA) coatings was investigated. The microstructure of the EA/mANF nanocomposite was studied using X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), which confirmed the homogeneous distribution of mANFs in the matrix. The effect of mANFs on the curing kinetics was investigated. The result showed that the photopolymerization rate and final C = C bond conversion would not be adversely affected until more than 0.1 wt% mANFs were added. The UV–Vis analyses showed that the EA/mANF films maintained high transmittance in the visible light region and exhibited improved UV-shielding performance. The mechanical characteristics of EA/mANF films were significantly improved by mANFs because of strong interactions such as π–π interactions, hydrogen bonds, and chemical bonds between the matrix and mANFs. For the nanocomposite containing 0.025 wt% mANFs, tensile strength and strain at break increased by 53% and 446%, respectively, compared to neat EA. Thus, the introduction of mANFs considerably improved the mechanical performance of UV-curable EA films and expanded their application in the field of UV shielding. The particle size, storage stability, and freeze-thaw resistance of the emulsions were examined. The pencil hardness and adhesion level of the films were tested. The structure of the modified waterborne polyurethane was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The thermal stability of the modified waterborne polyurethane was studied by thermogravimetric analysis. The corrosion resistance of emulsion coating was tested by the salt spray test and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The waterborne polyurethane emulsion modified by RO-EP had excellent storage stability. When the content of the ring-opening epoxy resin was 10 wt%, the particle size of WPU was the smallest. The corresponding coating had excellent hardness and adhesion level. The salt spray and EIS test showed that the WPU coating with 10% RO-EP had superior corrosion resistance. Sol-gel, ProcédéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Inhibiting moisture transfer at the surface of concrete plays a vital role on the durability of concrete, and permeable protective coating can effectively resist the intrusion of external moisture into concrete. A double silane system compound gel was prepared through sol–gel synthesis method by using isobutyl triethoxy silane and tetraethyl orthosilicate, solving the problems of volatility and poor adhesion of traditional silane-based penetrating protective materials. The performance of the compound gel was verified through static contact angle, capillary water absorption of concrete with cracks, electrochemical accelerated ion penetration, and rapid carbonation tests. The test results showed that the capillary water absorption coefficient for concrete with cracks up to 0.5 mm and coating compound gel was reduced by more than 70% compared to blank; the corrosion time of inserted reinforcement in concrete treated with the compound gel was extended by more than two times compared to blank. The research of compound gel can expand the application market of silane-based protective materials, especially for some longitudinal concrete structural parts that need higher durability requirements. Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Cationic polyacrylate latex has attracted extensive attention due to its special properties and potential applications in wood primers, metal coatings, and fabric treatments, etc. However, cationic polyacrylate latex has poor durability and stability, which limits its use in practical applications. In this study, a functional cationic monomer (3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl) dimethyl [2-[(2-methyl-1-oxoallyl)oxy]ethyl] ammonium chloride (DEAC) was combined with two conventional monomers of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and butyl acrylate (BA) to prepare cationic polyacrylate latex by a semi-continuous emulsion polymerization. The obtained latexes showed typical cationic character with zeta potential in the range of + 40 to + 65 mV. The effect of DEAC on the stability of latex was studied and good alkali resistance could be gained at high DEAC content. Water resistance and mechanical properties of the film before and after crosslinking are studied in detail. The results showed that the water absorption reduced from 60.04% to a minimum of 9.18%, and the tensile strength increased from 3.9 to 8.4 MPa, which was comparable to solvent-based polyacrylate films. This work provides a new strategy for the preparation of waterborne cationic polyacrylate latex with improved water resistance and good mechanical properties, etc., which can be applied in papermaking, textiles, wood primers, and other potential fields. Stabilité thermiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In recent years, the chemical industry is not only striving to produce the best possible products for various applications, but the new products should ideally be based on renewable resources. The ideal case of "cradle to cradle" is generally not achievable in the coatings industry, as maximizing product life and preventing product degradation in the environment is usually one of the main goals of the coatings industry. Therefore, if the coatings industry wants to act sustainably, its efforts should be focused on renewable raw materials. This paper presents a process that makes the renewable raw material phytic acid easily accessible for conventional epoxy and polyol resin coating systems through hydrophobization- and oligomerization. Phytic acid, as a phosphorus reservoir in plants and with beneficial properties for corrosion protection and as a flame retardant, could be a new base for various coatings. In this work, a simple one-pot oligomerization of phytic acid with green mono- and difunctional alcohols is investigated. The aim of this work is to create a phytic acid hardener system based on renewable raw materials that can produce coatings with solvent-based epoxy and polyol binders as well as water-based epoxy binders. The successful reaction was observed by infrared, 1H-NMR, and 31P-NMR spectroscopy and the acid equivalent weight was determined by conductivity titration. The renewable curing agent was then used equivalently with different binder systems to prepare coatings. Crosslinking and glass transition temperature were monitored using oscillatory rheology. The coatings were applied to glass plates and the pendulum hardness was measured. A simple heating test followed by 31P-NMR and IR spectroscopy was also performed to demonstrate the stability of phytic acid under reaction conditions. Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Phytic acid (PA)-coated zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles were developed to produce high-efficiency flame-retarding (FR) additives for coating formulations. These hybrid (organic/inorganic) additives were fabricated using a layer-by-layer (LBL) approach to harness the FR properties of PA and ZnO on a single-platform nanoscale scaffold. These nanoparticles can be uniformly dispersed in a polyurethane (PU) coating for applications on metal substrates. The incorporation of the PA/ZnO layer-by-layer nanoparticles at 20 wt% of the polymeric resin did not adversely affect the physico-mechanical properties of the coatings. Flame-retardant properties of PU samples containing nanomaterials, showed a 50% reduction in flame spread rate than that observed from the samples prepared with only ZnO nanoparticles. Cone calorimeter studies performed on the metal panels coated with 20 wt% PA/ZnO nanoparticles-infused PU resins showed a 25% reduction in peak heat release rate and a 50% reduction in total heat release (THR) compared to control coatings prepared without nanoparticles. Scanning electron microscopy images revealed the presence of bubble-like morphologies in the burnt samples containing the nanoparticles, indicating char formation and obstruction of escaping gases produced during the burning of the coating materials. This study clearly reveals that the coatings prepared with PA/ZnO hybrid nanoparticles can protect metal substrates against fire-related damage. The reaction species which are formed in the proximity of the anodes, like chlorinated compounds and acidity, can stress the antifouling paints of the protective coating system. A 3 × 3 matrix was defined to drive the tests aiming to investigate the behavior of novel biocide-free foul release (FR) and self-polishing (SP) paints under this kind of attack. The matrix was featured by different pH and free chlorine (free-Cl) values derived by a galvanostatic test performed at an anodic current density required for the protection of paints roughly at their mid age. Chemical/physical characterization was performed through visual analysis, thickness measurements, profilometry, contact angle measurements, and FTIR-ATR analysis. Both FR and SP paints underwent adhesive failure only in the harshest conditions, pH = 3/free-Cl 3–6 ppm, with unmodified chemistry of the polymers. Both paints exhibited no detachment in milder pH/free-Cl conditions, but thickness and contact angle reduction were observed. Finally, results were discussed inferring possible behaviors of the tested paints in real applications. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Materials - Methods

The prepared coating with a thickness of 5 μm was smooth, with good adhesion and no macroscopic defects. Its AO erosion yield was 9.77 × 10−27–1.25 × 10−26 cm3/atom, which was about three orders and one order of magnitude lower than that of Kapton and polysiloxane-60vol.%SiO2 (PSS) hybrid coating, respectively. The beneficial effect of graphene was attributed to the effective inhibition of gas permeation by the single-layer graphene due to its unique structure and the more stable epoxy groups produced during the reaction of graphene with AO. NanofiltrationIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : During interfacial polymerization, the in situ growth of nanobubbles can exist between the support layer and the separation layer of the membrane, which changes the microstructure of the membrane and improves its performance. The incorporation of R812s SiO2 in the preparation of the mixed matrix nanofiltration membrane increases the surface interface pores, thereby improving the flux. In this study, NH4HCO3 foaming agent was introduced into the aqueous phase of the R812s SiO2 nanofiltration membrane to react with the byproduct HCl generated during the interface process, thus generating nanobubbles that exist between the support layer and the separation layer. The surface of the membrane was characterized by related instruments. It was found that the addition of NH4HCO3 generates a large number of nanobubbles, causing significant changes to the membrane surface, and resulting in increased protrusions and pore size, greatly improving membrane flux while slightly reducing the rejection of sodium sulfate. In this study, the surface coating of calcite particles by silica nanoparticles (nano-SiO2) in aqueous solutions assisted by a CO2 environment was investigated. The result indicates that the coating performance can be controlled by altering the electrostatic attraction between calcite and nano-SiO2, with the calcite surface charge being the predominant factor. An elevated CO2 partial pressure (up to 3.7 atm) is beneficial for the coating process. However, similar coating performance can be achieved under lower CO2 partial pressures by introducing calcium salt into the aqueous solution. With the addition of 15 wt% of nano-SiO2 in a 6.5 mM CaCl2 solution, a nano-SiO2 loading content of 12.6 wt% (with an average calcite particle size of 6.74 µm) was achieved under 1 atm CO2 pressure after 24 h of the coating experiment. Overall, the coating of calcite surfaces with high contents of well-dispersed nano-SiO2 can be achieved in a CO2 environment, and calcium salts can be used to reduce the required CO2 pressure. As such, it is potentially feasible to integrate wet coating into aqueous carbonation-based CO2 mineralization processes to enhance process economics by making nano-SiO2-coated calcite a valuable byproduct.
