Résumé : |
Currently, the interest in basalt fibers as reinforcement fibers is increasing. Continuous basalt fibers are manufactured out of basait rocks. The properties of basalt fibers are similar or improved in comparison to the properties of glass fibers. Beside the high tensile strength and Young's modulus, the temperature and chemical resistance of basalt is emphasized. Furthermore, basalt is an inexpensive and extensively available raw material. Consequently, basalt fibers are considered as a new alternative reinforcement fiber. It is possible to feed basalt fiber rovings into extruders and manufacture short-fiber reinforced thermoplastics by injection molding. The Tailored Fiber Placement fabric as vvell as the basalt fiber/polypropylene (BF/PP) preform in the shape of a boomerang demonstrated that manifold textile application techniques are suitable for basalt fibers. |
