Textiles et tissus -- Industrie -- Aspect de l'environnementIndex. décimale : 677.4 Textiles artificiels Résumé : The global textile fiber market is enormous. The latest full market info dating from 2019 confirms the global textile fiber production to have been a staggering 111 million tons business. Of that total vast number, polyester (PET) fibers represented a share of 52.20/0, or 57.7 million tons. The next biggest category is then claimed by cotton fibers with a share of 23.2% or 25.7 million tons. Fiber production has more than doubled in the last 20 years and is expected to increase by another 30% by 2030 to 146 million tons if business as usual continues. It is impossible with the current technological and economical situation to find suitable and more sustainable alternative fibers to substitute these >50 million tons of PET fibers. A solution to substitute such vast volumes will also not be found within the foreseeable future. Therefore, there is no other choice than to try to cope with the use of PET, and try to find more sustainable ways of dealing with it.

SoudageIndex. décimale : 677 Textiles Résumé : Moisture-wicking, quick-drying, ultra-lightweight — polyester and other synthetic fibers like polyamide and elastane set the stan¬dards expected from high-performance clothing. Despite obvious downsides —these fibers do not feel as nice on the skin and start to smell a lot faster than their natural counterparts — synthetics have radically reshaped the global textile supply chain. Today, synthetics account for roughly two-thirds of global fiber production and the majority of that is polyester. These fabrics are made crude oi I and manufactured by burning high quantities of natural gas. Presently, the relatively low costs of polyester garments do not factor in the high environmental toll of the fossil fuel industry at all stages in the supply chain.
But cotton, once dominant, has not been able to compete. None of the natural materials — including hemp, linen, and wool — could be manipulated to make possible sweat-wicking, mechanical stretch, abrasion resistance, or quick-drying properties. Natural fi bers could not be formed and shaped the same way synthetics could. Because of this, it was considered impossible to make nat¬ural fabrics with the performance versatility of synthetics.Note de contenu : - Fiber welding

Traction (mécanique)Index. décimale : 677.4 Textiles artificiels Résumé : The interest and demand towards the use of thermoplastic composites have been gradually increasing due to their high damage tolerance, recycling, and energy absorption capability compared to thermoset composites. Despite such positive properties, thermoplastic materials have a negative side, which is their high melt viscosity. The solution to this problem can be achieved by using hybrid yarns in which reinforcement and matrix fibers are homogeneously mixed together. In this work, the aim was to investigate the mechanical properties of thermoplastic composites to be prepared using continuous glass fiber/polyethylene terephthalate (CGF/PET) hybrid yarns in different proportions by volume. CGF/PET hybrid yarns containing glass fiber in different volumes (45% and 55%) were produced, woven and then transformed into thermoplastic composite test plates using hot press. Tensile, 3 point bending and impact tests were used to investigate the mechanical properties. Note de contenu : - Raw materials

Polyéthylène téréphtalateIndex. décimale : 677.4 Textiles artificiels Résumé : It has been found that spinning machine parameters are the most important factors affecting the final polyethylene terephthalate (PET) filament properties. If the temperature is considered, then low spinning temperature can give higher viscosity, higher flow resistance through the spinneret's nozzle and high die head pressure. The extruded filaments are passed over the heated godets at different speeds to orient and crystallize the molecule by varying the winding speed 4,770, 4,950, 4,500 m/min. The manufactured PET FDY (fully drawn yarn) can be suitable for various end-use applications for high-end undergarments, sportswear and home furnishings. The process optimiza¬tion helped to develop better filaments that can have a scope to be utilized on a large scale. This project is more oriented toward investigation of the impact of draw ratio and winder speed over the molecule mobilization, fixation and crystallization of drawn filament at standard spinning conditions. It was found that the PET FDY tenacity (3.8, 4.1, 5.7 g/den) increased respectively, whereas elongation (40, 38, 32%) decreased at different draw ratios. En tant que polyester aromatique à partir d'éthylène glycol, il s'agit d'un analogue chimique du polyéthylène téréphtalate (PET) et du polyéthylène naphtalate (PEN).Index. décimale : 677.4 Textiles artificiels Résumé : In orderto create a basis fora more sustainable polymer and textile industry, bio-based polymers such as PEF(polyethylene furanoate) should be able to replace the established petroleum-based plastics as far as possible in the future. Applications include bio-based fibers for clothing and technical textiles, but also high-performance fibers such as those needed for tire cord yarns. In the PFIFFIG project (polymerfibers from bio-based furanoates targeting industrial grade), several institutes and industrial partners are conducting research along the process chain of PEF from the plant raw material to the technical end application. The DITF succeeded in the synthesis and spinning of PEF into yarns that meet the requirements for textile application, but also for high-strength applications. Textiles et tissus -- Aspect de l'environnementIndex. décimale : 677.46 Cellulosiques : rayonnes, acetates Résumé : The EU Single-Use Plastics Directive (SUPD) has already led to major changes and challenges in the nonwovens market. Product compositions that have been proven over many years in terms of their performance must be questioned, as they now no longer meet the required sustainability criteria. In fact, plastic-based fibers are not only characterized by diversity and some positive properties, they are also of fossil origin and non-biodegradable. This ultimately contributes to large amounts of plastic waste being found in our environment worldwide, especially in our oceans. The amount is equivalent to one truck load/minute or 12 million tons/year. Approx. 8% of this waste can be attributed to the nonwovens industry. A diaper made of plastic materials can take up to 450 years to disappear from the environment. Titre : A versatile approach to textile recycling and to handle feedstock heterogeneity in a circular economy Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Miguel sanchis Sebastia, Auteur Année de publication : 2022 Article en page(s) : p. 55-57 Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Textiles et tissus -- Recyclage Index. décimale : 677 Textiles Résumé : Textile fiber production has been increasing dramatically in the past decades, reaching almost 120 million tons in 2020 world-wide. The vast majority of these textile fibers (around 80 %) are disposed of as waste at the end of their use phase, which means that waste textiles are becoming an increasing environmental problem. Currently, the most common practices to manage this waste are landfilling and incineration, which are not particularly sustainable practices and therefore they aggravate the environmental impact of waste textiles. Textile recycling has been suggested as a possible solution to decrease this environmental burden as well as to increase circularity in the textile sector.
There are many different types of textile fibers present in the market : plant fibers, animal fibers, man-made cellulose fibers, fossil-based fibers, etc. This means that waste textiles contain a variety of different materials and therefore their physicochemical properties are far from homogeneous. Even if the different types of fibers are sorted and separated from each other, there could still be differences within the same fiber type. For example, the polymeric chains contained in cotton fi bers could be degraded to different extents depending on the type of washing applied to the material, where industrial washing degrades the polymers the most.Note de contenu : - Cotton fibers vs man-made cellulosic fibers

This is because the nonwovens properties tested satisfied customers using these to avoid landslide near river. The fabric properties tested were weight, thickness, air permeability and tensile strength. Also normalized tensile strength was calculated dividing tensile strength by weight. In this project banana pseudostems taken from the banana fiber plantation farm were fed into the banana fiber extractor machine purchased from ecogreen unit and banana fibers were extracted. Since the yield was low the banana fibers were directly ordered from the banana fiber supplier and taken to NIRJAFT (National Institute of Research on Jute and Allied Fibre Technology), Calcutta/India, and converted into nonwovens using needlepunching and thermal bonding. These nonwovens can be marketed for usage in to avoid landslide near river since they meet fabric properties required for usage in to avoid land slide near river. Note de contenu : - Material

Nevertheless, there is still no common understanding among experts as to how the very fine filament diameters in the range of a few micrometers (pm) are produced. The existing air velocities in the subsonic range are in any case not sufficient to explain the filament velocities of up to several km/s that are necessary to achieve such fine filaments. This paper will present a new approach that Fiber-To-Go is pursuing. It is already known that there must be a "post-stretching". However, the cause of this phenomenon has not yet been clarified. The authors assume a high-frequency oscillation of the filaments caused by the merging of the 2 air streams at the nozzle tip during the "Exxon-process".
