Carbon nanotubes, discovered in 1991 by Sumio lijima, are members of the fullerene family. Carbon nanotubes are fullerene related structure which consist of graphene cylinder closed at either end with a sort of emi-fullerene. In the technological field of polymer nanocomposite, new potential application may be obtained using nanotube as reinforced nanofibers and to impart unique electrical and thermal properties to the polymer matrix. Due to its typical structure with high aspect ratio and anisotropic structure, carbon nanotube shows characteristic electrical and thermal properties. After verification of extraordinary mechanical properties of carbon nanotube of its electrical conductivity and thermal properties, great excitement arises among researcher considering potential application. So far, in contrast of layered silicate polymer nanocomposite, application of carbon nanotube has been hindered mainly to production and synthesis problem. Potential application goes beyond mechanical reinforced nanomaterial from antistatic film packaging to every application in which are motivated well established electrical, optical and thermal properties of carbon nanotube. |
