Résumé : |
The ethylene-vinyl silane (EVS) and ethylene-vinyl acetate-vinyl silane (EVAVS) polymers described in this article are produced by free radical copolymerization of ethylene, vinyltrimethoxysilane (VTMOS) and, optionally, vinyl acetate under high pressure and temperature in a stirred autoclave reactor. EVS copolymers have been known for some time but have entered the commercial mainstream only since Mitsubishi Petro-chemical published a series of patents in the 1980s developing the technology of EVS manufacture, catalyzed cross-linking, and applications.
In 1989 AT Plastics Inc., Brampton, Ontario, licensed the EVS technology from Mitsubishi and began production of EVS copolymer under the trade name Aqua-Link. In 1993 AT Plastics produced developmental grades of EVAVS terpolymer. Figure 1 gives the chemical structures of EVS and EVAVS polymers. The EVS copolymers and EVAVS terpolymers contain <5 w/w% vinyl silane and resemble LDPE and EVA in appearance, respectively. |
