Résumé : |
An architect or specification writer who selects sealants for specific joint seal applications is often in a quandary as to which sealant is the most suitable among those available when analyzing the many factors which need to be taken into consideration. Often, lacking adequate information, the specifier selects the sealant he/she is most familiar with rather than doing a comprehensive analysis of reliable data to determine the most suitable sealant for a specific joint seal application in a given environment.
To help alleviate confusion, particularly among the consumer segment, ASTM Committee C 24 on Building Seals and Sealants formed a task group approximately 10 years ago and initiated development of a guide for the selection of generic sealants. Its main purpose was to provide a better understanding of the properties and inherent qualities of generic liquid-applied sealants to facilitate appropriate use of the various materials available to the industry. |
