Résumé : |
Thermoactivatable polyurethanes, proven for a long time as solventborne systems, are important adhesive raw materials. Using this group of adhesives, durable and reliable adhesive bonds can be manufactured in an economical way. Therefore, thermoactivatable polyurethanes are the raw materials of choice for many industrial applications, especially when working with difficult-to-bond substrates such as plasticized PVC.
As environmental pressures have increased to remove solvent from the workplace, environmentally friendly alternatives based on aqueous polyurethane dispersions are being offered by the producers of adhesive raw materials. The data shows that the performance of these raw materials is in no way inferior to the solvent-based systems.
Because of the rapidly changing demands of the market (substrates, films and application equipment), raw material suppliers have to quickly and efficiently find answers to meet the needs of adhesive end-users. The hot-tack measuring device discussed here was developed to assist in the development of new adhesive raw materials.
Examples of some of our development work demonstrate the power of this new tool and show that tack measurements match the results of adhesion tests. The influence of the main application parameters on tack and adhesion were discussed (e.g., temperature of the adhesive film, applied pressure and time of contact). Using this equipment, it is possible to predict the application behavior of thermoactivatable adhesives under industrial application conditions. The tack measuring device is used not only for the development of new products, but also to check the consistency and quality of our commercial products. |
