Résumé : |
Some useful benefits of formulating higher performing urethane adhesives by addition of polyaziridine have been demonstrated. The data presented shows polyaziridines can be a cost-effective crosslinker for improving the adhesive performance of water urethanes. As little as 0.08 eqs. or 0.5 percent versus solids were found to have a significant if not optimal effect on resistance properties. Another advantage of polyaziridine-based formulations is the extended pot life one can apparently obtain that can provide further application flexibility. The addition of polyaziridines has also been demon-strated to provide improved adhesion on certain substrates, particularly SMA. Of course, when one is formulating adhesives for a particular application, optimal combinations of cross-linker, polymer and other addi¬tives will need to be determined as they may be expected to be interdependent.
As previously mentioned, further investi-gations are underway to elucidate whether unexpected low levels of polyaziridine addi
tion to waterborne urethanes are typically/universally required for optimal performance in adhesive applications. The actual expected limit to the pot life will be determined and factors that might influence it. |
