Because the majority of the valuable fiber products are lost after use, textiles contribute a large amount to the waste stream. These valuable but abandoned fabrics may be recycled to make a variety of products, including thermal and acoustic insulation. This paper discusses the use of recycled synthetic polymeric fibers in thermal and acoustic insulation applications. Note de contenu : - Polyester

Textiles et tissus à usages techniquesIndex. décimale : 677.4 Textiles artificiels Résumé : To reduce the CO2 footprint, the Fraunhofer IGCV research with a state-of-the-art wetlaid nonwovens machine for recycling carbon fibers. The production processes are similar to those of a paper manufacturing machine. The crucial difference : paper fibers are not turned into the paper, but recycled carbon fibers are turned into nonwoven roll fabrics. The carbon fiber thus gets a second life and finds an environmentally friendly use in nonwovens, such as door panels, engine bonnets, roof structures, underbody protection (automotive), and heat shields (helicopter tail boom), as well as in aircraft interiors. Textiles et tissus à usages techniquesIndex. décimale : 677.4 Textiles artificiels Résumé : The use of reinforcement made of PE or PP leads to an improved performance of technical textiles, e.g. regarding tensile strength. At the same time, the basis weights of other composite materials can usually be reduced, thereby reducing product costs. The production of the smallest structures from micro to nanofibers enables highly efficient use in areas such as acoustics and filtration. Special emphasis was placed on the development of an environmentally friendly, solvent-free and cost-efficient manufacturing process for the production of nanofibers from polypropylene and other thermoplastics.
