MOISTURE cure polyurethanes, commonly known as PURs, are single-component, high-performance adhesives that offer superior bonding at high temperatures. Their high SAFT (shear adhesion failure temperature) properties and ability to cross-link make them ideal for a variety of robust applications in industries such as automotive, building/construction, filter, appliance, bookbinding, and others.
However, the same chemical properties that make PURs excellent for high-temperature, high-performance applications also pose challenges during material processing. Because PUR materials cross-link when exposed to moisture and do not remelt, it is important to keep them isolated from the atmosphere during processing and application Premature curing due to moisture exposure can lead to increases in material viscosity. Oxidative degradation can also increase viscosity and cause charring. Both of these effects can change dispense patterns and lead to system clogging and increased system maintenance. |
