Stabilité dimensionnelleIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : It is very difficult to find a better paper on dimensional stability in leather than the Schröpfer and Meyer (2011) paper that was presented at the XXX1 IULTCS 2011 conference in Valencia, Spain. Prior to that paper, another valuable piece of the puzzle for dimensional stabililty had been given by the seminal paper on collagen which produced the 'Polymer-in-a-box' hypothesis, by Miles and Ghelashvili (1999). Bosch et al. (2002) completes the trio of perfect papers that tell the full story about when leather shrinks and how it will performan in temperature and humidity.
The motivation for this article is frustration at how one still hears that chromium tanned leathers have higher stability in leather articles. People who say this are of course correct, but they only tell a part of the story, and when they incorrectly say that chromium leathers have higher dimensional stability in cars, they go too far. Chromium-free leathers have higher dimensional stability in car upholstery - end of story. Schröpfer and Meyer (2011) show the superiority of chromium-free in car dimensional stability unequivocally.Note de contenu : - Polymer-in-a-box

Techniques and solutions that are considered innovative today might be seen as normal or even old-fashioned five years from now. ILM spoke about such trends in the automotive interior segment. Note de contenu : - How do you expect the mobility industry to evolve in the future ?
- And which trends will influence the automotive industry the mosts ?
- So what is the influence of CASE trends on automotive interiors ?
- Is sustainability also a trend in automotive interiors ?
- How can automotive tanners meet the demand for more sustainable interiors ?
- Why is collaboration so important ?

Résistance à la déchirureIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : To be able to reduce cost in the automotive or furniture upholstery trim, manufacturers are often inclined to use coated or finished splits in the panels that are partially or fully hidden. The flesh split, spearated at the liming stage or the tanned stage, is processed with the intention of being used as high-performance split. The dyed crust split is then roller ans spray finished as a finishde split. Alternatively, a transfer/foil coating (coated split) is used on a surface that will become the new 'grain' surface. If the split is to be finished, a pre-ground and grounding coat may need to be applied first. The pre-ground,or ground, coat takes the role of helpming adhesion, binding the nap down, filing the 'grain', and ensuring consistency of absorbency.
The main physical properties that a high-performance split must have include :
- High tear strength
- Emboss retention
- Surface and nap cleanliness
- No organge peel
- Good finish adhesion
- Tear strength
The side that ends up being the 'grain side' is decided by the tanner and is decided by the cleanliness and the thickness of the split. For normal thickness leathers, the fibre strength increases as one moves from the grain through the bulk of the corium (to a peak) and then decreases into the flesh, due to the fibre size and angle of weave. The angle of weave is lower in the flesh and grain, overall, and the fibre diameter is smaller than the corium fibres.Note de contenu : - Fig. 1 : The anisotropic influence of the hide structure on tear strength
