Résumé : |
• A number of issues involved in specifying and achieving consistent print colour across major (and often international) projects are discussed. Various types of digital and conventional print output may need to be controlled to achieve matching end results.
• Various attempts have been made at standardisation, but none has achieved universal acceptance. Moreover, these standards have a number of identifiable shortcomings.
• Heidelberg has developed its own standard, which requires the use of Heidelberg presses. The PSO standard is popular in mainland Europe but only four UK companies use it.
• ISO 12647 offers no guidance on the use of very fine screen rulings (above 200 dpi) nor for recently developed modified screening technologies. Though optical brighteners (OBAs) are used very widely in papers, the standard assumes the use of papers free of them - which can only be obtained from one paper merchant in the UK.
• It is concluded that no current colour management strategy is adequate to meet all the needs of international projects. |
