SurfactantsIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : We have studied the adsorptions of aqueous solutions of three kinds of surfactants, anionic (sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate, SDBS), cationic (dodecyl trimethylammonium bromide, DTB) and a non-ionic (Triton X-100, TX-100), by chromium-containing leather waste. The results indicated that the anionic surfactant can be significantly adsorbed by the waste material adsorbent over the pH range 4.0-8.0. The adsorption capacities of the cationic surfactant and non-ionic surfactant on the adsorbent are limited. These facts imply that the predominant adsorption sites of such an adsorbent are amino groups and the Cr(III) combined with collagen. The adsorption capacity of SDBS increased with the rise of temperature when the initial surfactant concentration was 2000mg/L, the greatest adsorption of SDBS at 293K was 375mg/g, reaching 423mg/g at 313K, which indicates that the mechanism of the adsorption process may be chemical adsorption.
Higher ionic strength also leads to higher adsorption capacity. In general, the adsorption isotherms of SDBS on the adsorbent can be fitted by the Langmuir model. The adsorption kinetics data can be well described by the pseudo-second-order rate model. The adsorption capacities calculated by the pseudo-second-order rate model are close to those determined by actual measurements (error <10 %). The studies of column adsorption kinetics show that the breakthrough point of SDBS is around 150 x bed volume in the experimental system, which indicates the adsorption column has a high availability for the adsorption of anionic surfactant.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE : Materials - Adsorption isotherms - Adsorption kinetics - Column adsorption kinetics

Wet-white (tannage)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Fe(III)-loaded adsorbent (FLA) was prepared from waste wet-white. As a new adsorbent, its behaviour towards anionic dyes, Direct Yellow 11 (DY11) and Acid Yellow 11 (AY11), were investigated. It was found that the FLA is effective in removal of anionic dyes from aqueous solution and acidic pH favours the adsorption. The adsorption capacity of DY11 was significantly increased with an increase of temperature, whilst that of AY11 decreased, due to their difference in molecular structures. The maximum adsorption capacities of DY11 and AY11 at 323K were found to be 302.1 and 490.0 mg.g-1 respectively and the adsorption equilibrium data can be well fitted by the Langmuir model. The adsorption kinetics could be accurately described by a pseudo-second-order rate model. Investigation of column adsorption process indicated that FLA is effective in removal of AY11 from water, and the column can be regenerated by using dilute NH3 solution. Tannage au chromeIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : Tannery effluent with high salinity can have a serious environmental impact. The pickling process that involves the use of sodium chloride and acids is one of the main origins of salt pollution. In this study, a non-pickling chrome tanning technology was developed. A macromolecular aliphatic aldehyde, PTA, was synthesized and employed to pre-tan bated pelt before chrome tanning go that the conventional pickling process was eliminated. It was found that PTA possesses moderate tanning property itself and favours the penetration of chrome, resulting in a chrome exhaustion of 90%. Meanwhile, the performance of leather was comparable to the conventionally processed leather in terms of hydrothermal stability and property evaluations. However, the generally presence of formaldehyde greatly restricts the widespread application of amino resins. In this study, furfural, an organic compound derived from biomass material, was used to substitute for formaldehyde in the synthesis of melamine resin based on an alkaline-acid procedure. The as-synthesized formaldehyde-free melamine resin (MRf) showed excellent performances in leather processing. FTIR and 13C-NMR were used to characterize the chemical structure of MRf. The particle size as well as zeta potential were also determined. The retanning performances of MRf indicated that the overall performances of MRf are comparable to conventional formaldehyde contained melamine resin (MR) and commercial melamine resin (CMR). In particular, the thickness of the leather retanned by MRf was enhanced around 10.33%, which is significantly higher than that of controls MR (6.16%) and CMR (5.94%). Color measurements showed that MRf imparted leather with higher dark intensity. This present work demonstrated that furfural could be a potential candidate to replace formaldehyde in the production of formaldehyde-free melamine resin. Tannage organiqueIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : Diethanolamine, epichlorohydrin (ECH), and lysine were used to change the traditional synthesis route to address the formaldehyde emission issue of melamine resin (MR), and a novel waterborne MR retanning agent with ultralow formaldehyde content (MUF) was finally obtained. The structure of MUF was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, 13C nuclear magnetic resonance, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and its retanning performances in wet-blue and wet-white leathers were thoroughly investigated. Results showed that the formaldehyde content of MUF was 28.05 mg/kg, which was greatly lower than that of traditional MR (3550.23/2543.45 mg/kg), and the formaldehyde contents of chrome- and TWLZ-tanned leathers retanned by MUF were only 12.68 and 8.98 mg/kg, respectively. The thickening rates of MUF-retanned leather were up to 13.40% (chrome-tanned leather) and 9.58% (TWLZ-tanned leather), and MUF showed a satisfying overall performance in retanning leather. MUF is highly promising in practical application owing to its ultralow formaldehyde content, excellent stability in aqueous solution, and satisfactory retanning behaviors.
