A unique and most recent computer aided program has been developed in formulating alkyds as well as polyesters to a specified K value, excess hydroxyl, oil length etc. Using the modern Graphic User Interface, this program will help paint industries to formulate cost effective resins by changing raw material compositions and their costs during the design stage of any formula. A very special technique has been employed for the conversion of solid formula to 100% solution. This program, which has been developed in Microsoft Visual Basic 5.0 under Windows '95 operating system, will help the resin manufacturers to predict accurately cost and relevant theoretical constants of 100% resin solution used in paints. Although the present paper deals with alkyds and polyesters for example, the same program can be extended for other resins including paint formula too. |
