Monoglycerolysis (MG) catalyst, esterification catalyst, addition of free fatty acid and pre-prepared monoglyceride and antioxidant are considered as the critical factors which can affect the process cycle time. These factors are studied at different levels using the L-8 model. The statistical technique - Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) - has been used to analyse the outcome of each experiment. Anti oxidant and MG catalyst affect the colour and drying time of alkyd resin, and therefore the effect of anti-oxidant and MG catalyst has also been critically analysed through this model. The emulsion sample is dissolved in tetrahydrofuran and injected into a mixed bed column. Distributed species are detected through a high range refractive index detector and PL logical software is used to compute molecular weight distribution related data. Polystyrene standards are used to plot a calibration curve. The selection of polymer peak limits is done manually. Various experimental factors related to sample preparation and chromatographic conditions which affect reproducibility are carefully studied before arriving at the proposed method.
