Résumé : |
Aromatic synthetic tanning substances are classified into two main groups : the naphthalene syntans and the exchange (replacement) syntans.
The exchange syntans differ from the naphthalene tans in that they contain phenolic hydroxyl groups.
The identification of syntans by organic analytical means has been reported by Berkman and Chen. Roseira analyzed the naphthalene syntans by paper chromatography and Pomares reported the gel permeation chromatography of naphthalene syntans.
Ultraviolet (UV) spectrometry is a well-established and relatively inexpensive instrumental technique that has found numerous applications in industrial organic analysis.
This note describes a simple and rapid UV absorption spectrometry technique for distinguishing between naphthalene and exchange syntans. |
