Here, it is not specified as a clear film or an opaque film, because either is considered as a paint or a coating. Thus, a coating is essentially a liquid composition at the time of application and gets converted into solid, adherent film. The process of converting the liquid composition into a solid film is called setting or curing. Powder coatings are exeption to this rule, as powder paints are in a fine powdered form at the time of application. So, we will refer to liquid paints as liquid paints and to powder coatings as powder paints. Hot melts are also solid or semisolid at an ambient temperature. We can refer to coatings in this category as hot melts.
