CNSL based resins and polymers have been extensively studied for their application in the field of protective coatings, which can help to improve the anti-corrosion, anti-fungal and anti- bacterial properties of coatings. The CNSL chemical structure offers pathways for a number of polymerization reactions owing to its reactive phenolic structure and meta-substituted unsaturated aliphatic chain. To add on to the inherent unique properties, CNSL is also cheap and easily available and thus is an economical and bio-friendly sustainable resource. The long aliphatic chain in the structure of CNSL is known to impart excellent and-corrosion, water resistance and flexibility to coatings. The present review paper mainly focuses the anti-corrosion properties of CNSL based coatings. Note de contenu : - CHARACTERISTICS OF CNSL

Recent research studies have been aimed at improving the resistance of coatings against such degradation using nanomaterials. Recently the uses of graphene nano-flake rein forcements in polymeric coatings have been extensively investigated by many scientists to achieve such improvements. It has been postulated that graphene can act as a strong blocking agent and increase the resistance of coatings against UV light, moisture, oxygen, and so on. Electrochemical studies, mechanical studies have been carried out by many researchers to investigate the functional properties of graphene in coatings. The present review addresses the work done on graphene based coatings to study its performance in protective coatings. Note de contenu : - Graphene based epoxy coatings

The protective characteristics of these pigments have been attributed to the orientation of lamellar and flaky pigments which produces an increase in resistance to water permeation through the paint film. Use of micaceous iron oxide also reduces the ultraviolet degradation of the binder system and provides mechanical reinforcement to the paint film. The present article deals with the physical and chemical characteristics of these pigments and their effects on the final coating performance. Several other factors such as their incorporation level, influence of pigment volume concentrations, compatibility with different binders and extenders have also been discussed. The mechanism, using micaceous iron oxide has also been discussed in detail. Special emphasis has also been focussed on their water permeability and weatherability characteristics. In addition to this the blistering behavior of the pigmented paint film has been explained on the basis of water vapor transmission phenomena.
