Rheology is the science offlow and deformation of matters. The knowledge ofrheology and its dependent parameters is very crucial in understanding of the performance of powder which is a key factor in the design of a powders with desired properties. Rheology of thermosetting powder coatings has a strong influence on the film formation and thereby on the properties of the cured film. The rheology of thermosetting powder coatings depends on both viscosity and surface tension during the curing process. The rheology of thermosetting powder coatings differs much from that of a liquid paint. In this article these differences have been discussed. Besides surface tension and viscosity the effect of pigment dispersion, pigment concentration, film thickness, cluster formation, air bubble entrapping and particle size on the film formation of the thermosetting powder coatings has also been elaborated. The author of this paper has also described the effect of additives on flow promotion and the use of curing agents, their on flow and other properties. |
