The light reflectance of the floatstone-like TiO2 microparticles was approximately 10% higher than that of the usual rutile-type TiO2 submicron particles in a wavelength range from 400 to 850 nm. The diffuse reflectance of the microparticles is enhanced by the formation of a floatstone-like structure, whereas there is no difference in the specular reflectance of the particles. As an application of the floatstone-like TiO2 microparticles, the contribution of the particles to the light-trapping effect of a solar cell was examined. The power conversion efficiency of the solar cell was enhanced by 22% with the introduction of a light-scattering layer composed of the floatstone-like TiO2 microparticles. The anionisation efficiency of three typical textile processing application methods has been investigated, including cold pad-batch, pad-dry-cure, and pad-steam. To obtain the highest CHPSAS anionisation efficiency and dye uptake with basic dyes, the influence of CHPSAS concentration as well as molar ratio between CHPSAS and NaOH was evaluated. Additionally, various kinds of basic dye were applied to examine further the dyeability of the anionised cotton. The effect of the initial metal ion concentration and temperature on the reaction was investigated. Furthermore, the catalytic performance of the resulting metal–wool complexes was evaluated with respect to the dye decoloration efficiency at different pH levels under visible irradiation. The results demonstrated that increasing the initial metal ion concentration and temperature enhanced ion coordination to produce complexes of increased metal content. The obtained Fe–wool showed a higher metal content than the Cu–wool. The light adsorption performance in the UV and visible regions of Cu–Fe–wool is stronger than that of Fe–wool or Cu–wool. Furthermore, Cu–Fe–Wool was found to have a higher catalytic activity than the other two complexes under visible irradiation, especially in the alkaline pH range. TissésIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Sea–island-type, black dope-dyed poly(ethylene terephthalate) microfibre fabrics were compared with normal sea–island-type PET microfibres in terms of their thermal properties, alkaline weight reduction, and dyeing properties. A comparison of the weight reduction behaviours of the two microfibre yarns revealed that the microfibre yarn containing carbon black exhibited a higher dissolution speed than that containing no carbon black. The incorporation of carbon black particles in the polyester fibre matrix therefore accelerates the degradation of the less crystalline sea component during alkali treatment. A cationic dye staining method was used to monitor the alkaline dissolution behaviour of the sea–island-type PET microfibres, and compared with the K/S values and the colour difference, the fk value is the most-desirable indicator for determination of the termination point of the alkaline dissolution process. The colour strength and the colour fastness of the dope-dyed sea–island-type PET microfibre fabrics are superior to those of the normal type. Teinture -- Fibres textilesIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : A dyebath containing left-over CI Acid Red 249 after dyeing of wool was completely decolorised using an isolated bacteria Bacillus flexus. Optimisation was carried out by varying the pH, temperature, dye concentration, and microbial loading. Complete decolorisation of a 50 mg l?1 dye solution was achieved in 8 h at pH 7 and 37 °C with 10% v/v loading of the bacteria. The decolorised bath was utilised for dyeing of wool fabric with the same dye at 5% shade. This cycle of dyeing–decolorising–dyeing was repeated 5 times. The evaluation of dyed fabric was done using K/S, colour values, and fastness to light and washing. Comparison of a sample dyed with the conventional exhaust process showed that the dyeing quality is not affected for all five successive reuse cycles. The results are important from the viewpoint of reducing water consumption and chemicals. Colorants azoïquesIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : In this paper, spectroscopic and quantum mechanical investigation of nine 4-aryl-5-arylazo-3-cyano-6-hydroxy-2-pyridone dyes was performed, and obtained density functional theory (DFT) results were compared with experimental data. The structural and spectroscopic properties of azo-2-pyridone dyes were studied by DFT using B3LYP, CAM-B3LYP, and M06-2X methods with a 6-311++G(d,p) basis set. Comparison of results reveals that the scaled theoretical vibrational frequencies of azo dyes are in good agreement with experimental data. The time-dependent DFT calculated and experimental ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) absorption spectra are also in good agreement. The effect of electron-donating –OCH3 and electron-withdrawing –NO2 groups on the structural parameters, vibrational frequencies, UV-vis absorption, and natural bond orbital (NBO) atomic charges were thoroughly analysed. Vibrational, UV-vis, and NBO analyses confirm that investigated dyes exist in the hydrazo tautomeric form in the solid state and ethanol solution. These analyses signify the occurrence of intramolecular charge transfer in these azo-pyridone dyes. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : General - Method of calculation

Evaluation of the physicomechanical properties revealed that the dry crease recovery angle was significantly increased in the case of aluminium isopropoxide, whereas the tensile strength and the tear strength were reduced. The application of alkyltrialkoxysilanes resulted in an enhanced contact angle. The indicator-grafted, water-compatible PU is analysed for soft-segment thermal, tensile, and shape recovery properties, fast colour change depending on various pH conditions, and low-temperature flexibility. The PU surface becomes water compatible as DMPA content increases, and the characteristic UV-vis absorbance is observed for each grafted indicator. The PU series exhibits a sharp increase in tensile stress and crosslink density at low DMPA content, but a decrease with increased DMPA content. The glass transition temperature increases significantly with increased DMPA content. Shape recovery remains high, but shape retention sharply decreases after an indicator is grafted. The grafting of pH indicator onto PU improves the low-temperature flexibility and imparts an immediate colour change according to the solution pH and grafted indicator. Teinture -- Fibres textilesIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Development of an environmentally friendly pigment dyeing process with excellent colour depth and levelness is an effective strategy for solving pollution problems in traditional dyeing. A functional polyoxyethylene ether nonionic surfactant, tetradecyl alcohol polyoxyethylene ether with an EO chain length of 5 (C14EO5), was used as a foam controller, namely a foaming agent and foam stabiliser, in the pigment foam dyeing process. The foamability and the foam stability of C14EO5 were tunable by adjusting its concentration. The foaming ratio and the foam half-life of C14EO5 were 5.22 and 32.21 min, respectively, at a concentration of 8 wt%. The addition of pigment dispersion (ranging from 1 to 6 wt%) slightly affected the foaming ratio and the foam half-life owing to the interplay of increased viscosity and pigment particle destabilisation. After the influences of binder on foam properties of C14EO5 were investigated, the concentration of binder and the stirring time for foaming were determined as 15 wt% and 7 min respectively. Owing to the stable foaming ratio and foam half-life of the pigment foam dyeing dispersion, the colour depth of dyed cotton fabric was tailored solely by changing the dosage of pigment dispersion. Furthermore, the dyed cotton fabric showed not only a high K/S value but also perfect colour levelness and fastness. These results demonstrate that the pigment foam dyeing process with a foam controller, C14EO5, reduces chemical and water consumptions, as well as improving the colour depth and levelness. This represents a significant step forward as regards environmentally friendly pigment dyeing. Teinture -- Fibres textilesIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : In order to reutilise the byproducts of foods and crops to benefit the environment and economise on resources, the natural extracts from chestnut shell and black rice bran were applied in the simultaneous dyeing and multifunctionalisation of silk fabrics. In this work, the influence of pH value on dyeing properties was studied. The effects of the ratio of chestnut shell and black rice bran extracts and the application of mordants (aluminium potassium sulphate and ferrous sulphate) on the dyeing performance as well as anti-ultraviolet and antioxidant properties of treated silk were also discussed. The results showed that deep-coloured silk fabrics can be obtained when dyed with the two natural extracts as the pH value of the dyebath approached 3. The ratio of the two natural extracts and the use of the mordants have significant effects on colour depth, colour hue, colour fastness, and the functionalities of dyed silk fabrics. Combination dyeing and mordanting are able to enrich the colour hues of dyed fabrics. The washing, rubbing, and light fastness of the dyed fabrics after mordanting can be rated higher than grade 4. Moreover, the silk after combination dyeing has good UV protection performance (UPF > 30) and antioxidant activity. In addition, the functionalities of treated fabrics showed excellent washing fastness. This study reveals that chestnut shell and black rice bran extracts are suitable as natural colourants and multifunctional finishing agents for the preparation of coloured and multifunctional silk materials.
