In the automotive, machinery and electronics industry there is a demand for powder coating of small parts - as small as a fingertip - in very large quantities.
If powder coated by traditonal methods, this requires a lot of manpower, which multiplies the costs. Coating equipment for small parts in big quantities, alongside coating equipment for special applications is the main business of SFB AG, a Swiss engineering company, located in central Switzerland.
The company has over 25 machines for small parts powder coating in operation, all over the world and the system is continually being improved. Meanwhile, more than 1bn small parts are coated every year with this equipment and the demand is increasing. Depending on part size, a standard SFB powder coating machine can coat up to 18 999 parts/hr or up to five parts/sec at a constant quality. Typically, these powder coating machines are used to apply powder for electrical insulation and/or corrosion resistance. |
