Silanisation of barium sulphate and titanium dioxide.
Fundamental lab work and results in the field of particle functionalisation are presented. The focus is on the silanisation of barium sulphate and titanium dioxide. It is important to verify the availability and reactivity of the organic group of the silanes. The potential of this new generation of particles was investigated using various powder coating systems to inhibit effects like blanching.
Surface functionalisation of inorganic particles on the base of barium sulphate and titanium dioxide with reactive silanes enables the formation of covalent bonds between the particle surface and the surrounding matrix. Such a connection prevents the penetration of water and subsequently the blanching.
This new generation of functionalised barium sulphate can also have a positive effect on properties such as mechanical strength, corrosion and chemical resistance. |
