Different types of coatings are adopted for base material protection and durability. Most common metals used in the aircraft are aluminum alloys, steels, titanium alloys and magnesium alloys. In addition, many types of non-metallic materials are also used. Several methods are in vogue for the protection of different parts of the aircraft. They are electroplating, enamel coatings, hydrophobic coating & plasma jet spray coating, etc. to ensure long serviceability of airframe and components.
