Widely used as a white pigment, titanium dioxide (TiO2) suspensions must remain stable to be of value since aggregation affects a number of physical properties.
One of the key parameters influencing the dispersion stability of such suspensions is zeta potential, a property that can be measured using electrophoretic light scattering techniques (laser Doppler electrophoresis). As a consequence of possessing a high refractive index, however, TiO2 is particularly turbid at even moderate concentrations. This means that industries working with TiO2 slurries and other turbid suspensions have found it difficult to use modern light scattering instruments for zeta potential measurement. Now, the introduction of a high concentration zeta potential cell has opened the door to using laser Doppler electrophoresis to measure the zeta potential of samples with concentrations up to three times greater than previously possible.Note de contenu : - A problem of clarity
