ThermocinétiqueIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The influence of microwave irradiation on chromium sulphate solution was studied to provide a foundation for effectively utilizing microwave in the tanning process. The chromium sulphate solution was heated by microwave with a sample heated by water bath at the same condition as a control. During the process, the pH, conductivity, dielectric constant and UV-Visible absorption spectrum of chromium sulphate were measured to study the influence of different heating methods on chromium complexes hydrolysis and on the olation process. The results demonstrated that both microwave and water both methods could lead to the chromium sulphate pH dropping, conductivity increasing, UV-Visible characteristic absorption peak shifting to violet, R value enlarging and dielectric constant increasing. However, the microwave irradiation had much more obvious effects on these changes than the water bath, indicating that microwave irradiation could promote chromium sulphate hydrolysis and dation further. This research proved the both uniform thermal effect and non-thermal effect in the chromium sulphate solution under microwave irradiation, and that these affects could benefit the chrome tanning process in the future. The effect of hyperbranched polymers on collagen fibres was discussed by comparing with linear products at macro level. The experimental results showed that hyperbranched polymers are less lubricating than linear compounds but have more filling abilities. Thickening rates of the leather treated by CHBPs decreased with growing generations due to their hydroxyl groups external to the molecule which will cross-link collagen fibres. In addition, CHBPs at higher generations can shrink location difference sharply. Unluckily, except for CHBP, other products didn't improve the mechanical properties of the leather remarkably. Still, hyperbranched polymers showed great potential application in the leather industry. RetannageIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : The retanning process is one of the most important processes in leather production and which plays a vital role in the modern leather industry. In this paper, copolymers based on acrylic acid (AA), butyl acrylate (BA) and acrylamide (AM), were prepared by free radical polymerization. Chain transfer agents were added during the synthesis process to control the molecular weight of the copolymer. The copolymers with different amounts of chain transfer agent were tested for their molecular weight and other properties. The copolymers were analysed using XRD, GPC and FT-IR.
Leathers were retanned with different copolymers and the mechanical properties, and SEM of retanned leather were also examined. The results showed that the increased molecular weight of the copolymers decreased the crystallinity, the functional groups of copolymers did net change significantly when the dosage of chain transfer agents increased. When the amount of chain transfer agents was increased, the copolymer had a smaller molecular weight and the retanned leather showed better elongation at break. When the copolymer molecular weight was larger, the tensile strength and tear strength of retanned leather increased. This is important to help select the appropriate molecular weight acrylic retanning agent for different styles of leather products.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES : Materials - Synthesis of the poly AA/BA/AM copolymer - Preparation of leather - Characterization - FT-IR analysis - Mechanical properties

Travail de rivière (cuir)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The cleaner production of leather has attracted the world's attention, in that much effort has been made in many aspects such as substitution of chemical materials, recycling of waste water, process or equipment modification etc. in light of the structure and characteristics of the usual suspended drum the electrochemically assisted drum used here was prepared by introducing electrodes on bath sides of the drum. Taking the NaCI from the rawhide as a supporting electrolyte, C10- was used simultaneously as a source of oxidants in the electrochemical treatment. Based on cow hair oxidation experiments the electrochemical parameters were referenced and used for treating the liquid baths in the beamhouse. Comparing the COD, TKN and 52- contents in liquid baths both with and without electrochemical treatment the results show that values for all of the parameters were decreased signilicantly. The water usage and NaCI concentration met the needs of the emission abatement aims. Performed in the same way as common beamhouse processing, this experiment had other cleaner functions low sulphur, reduced lime and hair-saving. The pH, temperature and rotation speed of drum of the floats liquid baths have been examined. Tannage Résumé : Test results of semi-finished crust made from wet-blue are presented. Mineral, synthetic, vegetable and aldehyde tannins were used as retanning agents. Absorption, desorption and permeability of water vapour (WVP) were determined using the standardised method and UTH Radom method. Softness, shrinkage temperature and resistance to water of the semi-finished crust were determined as well. The tests have demonstrated that the hygienic properties of leathers are to a great degree dependent on types of retanning agents applied. Correlations have also been proved between permeability of water vapour (WVP) and between WVP and shrinkage temperature of crust leathers as per the standard and UTH Radom methods. Phosphate de potassiumLe phosphate de potassium est le nom générique pour les sels formés des ions phosphate et potassium résultant de l'attaque de l'hydroxyde de potassium (KOH ou potasse, base) par l'acide phosphorique.
StatistiqueIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Hexavalent chromium (Cr6+) is formed in chrome-tanned leather due to oxidation of trivalent chromium (Cr3+) under certain conditions and may induce dermatitis and cancer. Specifically, significant amounts of Cr6+ are generated during the heat-ageing process by pre-heating at 80°C for 24 hours in accordance with ISO rnethod17075, promoting the formation of Cr6+ from Cr3+ in chrome-tanned leather. Thus, inhibiting or minimizing the production of Cr6+ is needed badly. A previous report demonstrated that 0.1mol/L potassium phosphate buffer (P-buffer ; pH5.5) was highly efficient as an extractant for the measurement of Cr6+ from chrome-tanned leather as compared with P-buffer (pH8.0).
The present report describes efforts to control the redox behaviour of Cr3+ with the goal of inhibiting the formation of Cr6+ in chrome-tanned leather using a low-molecular weight (At 9,400) collagen peptide (CP-9), 2, 6-di-t-butyl-4-methylphenol (BHT), 3(2)-t-butyl-4-hydroxyanisole (BHA), and ascorbic acid (AsA) as inhibitors, even with heat-aged leather. Chrome-tanned leather was treated with the inhibitors, and the resulting leather samples were extracted with P-buffer (pH5.5) to determine the amount of Cr6+ in the extracts. The results showed that CP-treatment significantly reduced the amount of Cr6+ formed, probably due to a combination of chelation of CP on the Cr3+ complex, quenching of reactive oxygen, and radical scavenging. The BHT, and BHA, and AsA treatments also reduced the amount of Cr6+ formed, probably due la scavenging radicals from the oxidative products of the fatliquoring agent and alterations in the reducing conditions. However, treatment with any of the inhibitors individually did not cause complete inhibition of Cr3+ oxidation. Therefore, the action of the combined inhibitors was investigated. The results demonstrated that treatment with BHA + CP and with BHA + AsA produced a synergistic reduction in Cr6+ production. Use of BHA + AsA + CP completely inhibited the formation of Cr6+ from heat-aged leather samples.Note de contenu : - Materials

Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Antifouling coatings are of great interest in many fields including the leather industry. Herein, the effects of zwitterionic groups on the preparation, structure, and performance of anti-biofouling zwitterionic polyurethanes have been investigated. The results show that the addition of excessive 1,3-propane sulfone (1,3-PS) contribute to the completion of the ionization reaction of the polyurethane in the preparation process. However, the residual 1,3-PS leads to the formation of micropores in the polyurethane films and this can be removed by the precipitation of the synthesized products in water. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (MITA) show the decreased T of polyurethanes with the increasing of zwitterionic groups, indicating the slightly enhanced microphase separation of the polyurethanes. The water vapour permeability (WVP) and water absorption rate (WAR) of polyurethane films increase with zwitterion groups, and thus the water-resistant property of the films needs to be improved for the purpose of leather coatings. In the emulsification of polyurethane, the presence of zwitterionic sulfobetaine causes the pH decrease of the emulsions, and proper neutralization may adjust it in the further investigations. MAE's molecular weight, molecular structure and some other properties including stabilities in solution and functions in leather making were researched. MAE has a star pattern structure and has good stability in water solution but is sensitive to glutaraldehyde and gelatin solution at the high pH value. The research results indicate that MAE has a tanning effect, Ts 78.2°C. Tear strength, thickening rate and SEM images indicate that MAE is a good retanning agent of chrome leather. The synergistic effect of combination tanning of MAE with mimosa extract or glutaraldehyde gave Ts up to 97.5°C or 92.7°C. The Ts of leather tanned or retanned by MAE reduced less after fatliquoring, indicating that MAE can well stabilize leather network structure. ProfilométrieIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The quality of finished leather is often deterrnined based on the grain characteristics or pattern. The grain characteristics of leathers vary according to the age of the animal, breed, gender, climate, animal husbandry practices and processing conditions. However, the assessment of the leather surface or grain characteristics is often subjective. In this study, the grain characteristics were determined using a profilometry technique. Profilometry, a metrological method, is essentially the measurement or assessment of surface texture which is interrelated with its friction and wear properties.
The aim of the study was to define and grade the leather surface based on a given scale as well as to analyse the affect of various leather-making operations, including tanning, on the grain texture of leather from species of different origine.
Hides (bovine) and skins (caprine) were subjected to various processing conditions, including deliberately extreme conditions, such as extended timing processes and a shrunken grain tannage. The topography of the grain surface was analysed using an optical profilometer ; with the 3-dimensional stitched scans produced verified by scanning electron microscopy.
The results demonstrate a technique that could be used in forensic, quality control and research contexte to provide tanners with an indication of the impact of the processing on the grain pattern of their leather.
