The variation of physical properties with direction of testing at each of four positions is assessed on chrome tanned hair-on and chrome tanned unhaired kangaroo leather. The properties evaluated were tensile strenght, elongation, tear load, tear strenght and thickness of the leather, and the areas sampled were neck, belly, leg and rump. It is shown that these properties have greater directional asymmetry in neck and rump than in the belly or leg regions. The neck of kangaroo skin is the thinnest of the areas sampled while the rump is the thickest. Also, these properties do not correlate with the order of values found at the same positions on bovine skin. Kangaroo skin is bilaterally symmetrical. |
